Experience Local Sauna Culture at the First Ever ‘Sauna Travel Expo 2025’ in Japan

Explore the Unique World of Japanese Saunas

Japan is witnessing a rising trend of sauna culture, especially among Gen Z and women, transforming it into a modern cultural phenomenon. In response to this growing interest, Japan Airlines (JAL) and ADWAYS DEEE will collaborate to present the first-ever ‘Sauna Travel Expo 2025’, running from October 3 to October 5, 2025, on Awaji Island. This experiential event aims to showcase local sauna experiences from each of Japan's 47 prefectures, creating a one-of-a-kind journey through the country’s sauna culture.

A New Cultural Experience

The concept of the expo, “Sauna as a Reason to Visit Japan,” encapsulates the essence of the event. Attendees can expect to navigate through five themed large tent saunas, known as “Sauna Travel Pavilion,” which will be strategically set up at the event venue, Aqua Ignis Awaji Island. Each pavilion will represent different regions, creating a sense of traveling through Japan without leaving the venue.

JAL has been instrumental in promoting sauna tourism since 2019 with its “JAL Sauna Travel” initiative, offering specialized tours and merchandise. The establishment of the “JAPAN SAUNA-BU ALLIANCE” has allowed them to collaborate with over 200 businesses, facilitating various events and networking opportunities across the sauna industry.

Similarly, ADWAYS DEEE has emphasized the connection between sauna culture and local tourism. They launched the “Local Sauna Committee” in partnership with JAL in 2021. This collaboration aims to deepen ties with sauna and tourism businesses nationwide and foster greater interest in local resources. The growing popularity of saunas is evident, with an estimated 16.48 million domestic users expected by 2024.

Event Highlights

1. Five Regions, Five Experiences

The expo will include five uniquely designed sauna pavilions:
  • - Hokkaido and Tohoku Pavilion
  • - Kanto and Koshinetsu Pavilion
  • - Chubu and Kinki Pavilion
  • - Chugoku and Shikoku Pavilion
  • - Kyushu and Okinawa Pavilion
Each pavilion will feature local soundscapes and lighting that enhance the atmosphere, alongside exclusive “sauna experience programs” that allow guests to fully immerse themselves in the sauna culture of each region.

Participants can enjoy a unique local sauna adventure that varies daily.
