EVE Energy Secures the First TÜV SÜD Certification
In a groundbreaking move, EVE Energy, a leading player in the lithium-ion battery industry, has earned the prestigious TÜV SÜD certification for its electric vehicle (EV) batteries. This achievement marks a significant milestone as EVE Energy becomes the first company in the industry to obtain this certification, which complies with the new EU Battery Regulation (EU) 2023/1542.
The TÜV SÜD certification, issued on December 18, 2024, serves as a preliminary verification for Module D1 of the EU’s conformity assessment procedures. This endorsement showcases EVE Energy's technical expertise and robust quality management system, reinforcing the company’s competitive stance in international markets, particularly within the European Union.
EVE Energy assembled a specialized task force comprised of experts from various departments—including strategy, research and development, production, quality assurance, environmental, social governance (ESG), legal, and supply chain management—to coordinate and manage the certification process. The teamwork among these divisions ensured the successful completion of the audit, culminating in TÜV SÜD’s approval.
The EU Battery Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 lays out stringent requirements covering the entire lifecycle of EV batteries, focusing on aspects such as production, recycling, and overall environmental sustainability. This regulation is pivotal in supporting the EU's objectives of circular economy and carbon neutrality. It includes strict standards regarding restricted substances, carbon footprint, recycled materials, as well as performance and durability, ensuring that products meet the EU’s environmental and sustainability goals.
EVE Energy’s certification validates its compliance with the various demands of the EU Battery Regulation concerning safety, restricted substances, carbon footprint, battery performance, longevity, labeling, State of Health (SOH), and expected battery lifespan. TÜV SÜD also scrutinized EVE Energy's quality management system as part of the conformity assessment procedure. Throughout the entire certification journey, EVE Energy maintained close collaboration with TÜV SÜD to ensure transparency in the evaluation process.
To manage its carbon footprint efficiently, EVE Energy meticulously adheres to the methodologies outlined in the delegated act of the EU Battery Regulation (EU) 2023/1542. The company collected specific data from seven manufacturing facilities, which encompassed over 200 data streams, completing the Life Cycle Impact Assessment (LCIA) dataset concerning the carbon footprint through the Environmental Footprint (EF) 3.1 methodology. Additionally, EVE has established a comprehensive system to manage the carbon footprint of its EV batteries, ensuring data quality across the entire lifecycle.
With TÜV SÜD's verification, EVE Energy becomes the first battery manufacturing company to complete both the carbon footprint calculation of EV batteries and the establishment of a data quality management system in accordance with Regulation (EU) 2023/1542. This accomplishment underscores EVE Energy's competency in carbon management and regulatory compliance.
From product development to manufacturing, EVE Energy strictly adheres to EU requirements and internationally harmonized testing standards related to environmental protection, safety, durability, and data traceability. This rigorous process not only involves a stringent self-audit at the factory level but also extends to detailed examinations of upstream suppliers.
EVE Energy's TÜV SÜD certification demonstrates its commitment to product quality and corporate systems, showcasing a proactive approach to meet the demands of the international marketplace. This certification enhances EVE Energy's competitive advantage within the lithium battery sector, positioning the company favorably to access the EU market and solidify its presence on the global stage.
Looking ahead, EVE Energy and TÜV SÜD plan to deepen their collaboration to assist Chinese battery companies in their global expansion endeavors. EVE Energy aims to leverage this partnership to drive innovation and implement green energy technologies, contributing to global sustainable development goals and addressing climate change challenges through efficient collaboration across the global value network for a cleaner and more sustainable future.
