Slippery Rock University to Introduce Finney Finance Lab with $500,000 Alumni Donation

Slippery Rock University Launches Innovative Finney Finance Lab

In a significant development for the academic community, Slippery Rock University (SRU) is set to enhance its educational offerings in finance with the establishment of the Finney Finance Lab, thanks to a $500,000 donation from alumni Joe and Pam Finney. This innovative lab will be located within the Haverlack College of Business and aims to provide students with unparalleled access to modern financial systems and tools, directly integrated with real-world applications used in top financial institutions worldwide.

The Finney Finance Lab will be equipped with Bloomberg Terminal workstations, which are renowned as the gold standard for real-time financial data, analytics, and trading. This access is typically reserved for elite business programs, positioning SRU alongside a select few regional universities capable of offering such professional-level resources.

The lab is designed to support a variety of academic programs, including finance, economics, accounting, and business analytics, allowing students to engage in curricula that reinforce their theoretical understanding with practical applications. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to earn Bloomberg Market Concepts certification and participate in global trading competitions, enhancing their resumes and career readiness.

Joe Finney, a distinguished alumnus from the class of 1986, expressed gratitude towards his university, stating, “Slippery Rock gave me everything: my career, my direction, and my wife of 39 years. This lab is our way of giving back and ensuring that the next generation of students is fully equipped to compete in the job market.” On the same note, Pam Finney, also a 1986 graduate, echoed similar sentiments about their commitment to SRU.

The establishment of the Finney Finance Lab comes during a period of tremendous growth and momentum for SRU. The university has recorded its highest first-to-second-year retention rate in a decade at 86.4%, along with an impressive four-year graduation rate of 58.3%, the best in 20 years. The Haverlack College's AACSB accreditation places it among less than 6% of business schools globally, further elevating the university's status in the educational landscape.

Dean Prasad Vemala of the Haverlack College of Business expressed heartfelt appreciation for Joe and Pam Finney's substantial investment, indicating that the lab will fundamentally enhance the educational experience by providing students with access to industry-standard tools. It is anticipated to serve not just as a classroom resource but as a hub for student-led investment initiatives, faculty-led research, and career development programs.

The Finney Finance Lab is expected to officially open in fall 2026 and will be situated in the Eisenberg Classroom Building. This development reflects SRU's ongoing commitment to experiential, career-ready education, establishing a direct link between classroom learning and future financial careers for its students.

As the CEO of T3 Services Group, Joe Finney has a wealth of experience leading various companies in services, retail, and distribution over a successful 40-year career. The impact of his and Pam’s contributions extends far beyond just the financial donation; they are creating opportunities for the younger generation to realize their potential and thrive in an ever-competitive financial sector.

Overall, the launch of the Finney Finance Lab marks a pivotal investment in the future of SRU students, bolstering the institution's reputation for academic excellence and preparedness in real-world scenarios.
