ALL DIFFERENT Implements Disaster Preparedness Training for Employees

ALL DIFFERENT’s Initiative for Employee Safety in Emergencies

In December 2023, ALL DIFFERENT Inc., a consulting firm based in Chiyoda, Tokyo, which has assisted over 450,000 individuals across 20,000 organizations, organized a significant disaster preparedness event. This initiative involved all employees participating in training sessions designed to enhance their knowledge and skills in dealing with disasters and medical emergencies, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding their own lives and those of their colleagues.

Background of the Training

Japan is known to face numerous natural disasters, with recent projections from the Cabinet Office estimating that a major earthquake along the Nankai Trough could result in up to 298,000 fatalities. Despite Japan's prominence in the dissemination of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs), a report from the Japanese Circulation Society reveals that only about 4.3% of witnesses to sudden cardiac arrest events use AEDs, highlighting a concerning gap in preparedness.

To address this crucial issue, ALL DIFFERENT conducts over 6,000 training sessions throughout the year, reaching more than 300,000 participants annually. The company has focused on establishing a robust emergency response framework within its training operations since its inception.

Contrary to many training service providers that rely on external instructors, ALL DIFFERENT employs over 150 in-house trainers, reflecting their commitment to equipping employees with essential survival skills in emergency situations. The two-day training comprised a proactive disaster training session and an AED workshop.

Proactive Disaster Training

On December 1, employees gathered at the Tokyo headquarters for the proactive disaster training. This session included staff from the Kansai and Chubu branches, emphasizing a unified approach to disaster readiness. Led by an employee with a qualification as a Disaster Prevention Specialist, discussions included personal experiences from the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake, thereby making the training relatable and relevant.

The training covered critical points on responding to earthquakes, including proper use of disaster communication services and action protocols during an actual earthquake scenario. A quiz on disaster response was also conducted to deepen understanding and ensure every participant grasped the necessary actions during emergencies. The training was designed to empower employees to take initiative during crises, showcasing the company's dedication to fostering a culture of responsibility.

AED Workshop: Saving Lives

Following the disaster training, an AED workshop took place on December 19. Led by fire department personnel, the workshop focused on practical training for employees to confidently respond to cardiac emergencies. Participants were guided on the proper operation and critical considerations associated with AED use.

Feedback from attendees was overwhelmingly positive, with many expressing newfound confidence in handling AEDs despite initial apprehension. “I had never used an AED before, but the detailed illustrations and auditory instructions provided made me feel prepared to assist in an emergency,” noted one participant. Another commented on the invaluable insights gained from hands-on practice under professional supervision.

Looking Towards the Future

The impact of the training sessions is evident, as post-event surveys indicate that employees' awareness and readiness regarding disaster preparedness have significantly improved. ALL DIFFERENT remains committed to continuous improvement of safety protocols to ensure the well-being of its employees and participants. As a leader in organizational development and training consulting, ALL DIFFERENT strives to deliver high-quality and secure services to meet these challenges.
