Experience the Delight of Japanese Pears in Singapore
In a groundbreaking initiative, Sendai Terminal Building Co. is set to showcase the delicious pears grown at JR Fruit Park Sendai Araham, during the upcoming
The Japan Rail Fair 2025 in Singapore. This event, taking place from
October 9 to 11, 2025, will serve as a test marketing platform to see if these exquisite fruits can capture the hearts (and taste buds) of international consumers.
The Event Overview
The Japan Rail Fair 2025 is organized by
JR East Business Development SEA, and will be held at the Level 1 Urban Park at Guoco Tower. This fair will not only highlight the unique agricultural products of Japan but also promote tourism in the Tohoku region, particularly仙台 (Sendai).
Featured Pear Varieties
At the fair, attendees will be introduced to two specially cultivated varieties of pears:
1.
Akizuki
This pear is a hybrid of the remarkable “Niitaka,” “Toyosui,” and “Kōsui.” It features white flesh that is as soft as the Toyosui, with an abundance of juice and minimal acidity, making it incredibly refreshing and enjoyable.
2.
Kanta
As its name suggests, this variety is known for its sweetness. A hybrid of “Ōtō” and “Akizuki,” it can weigh over 500 grams, making it a large and satisfying choice. The unique flavor profile includes a delightful mix of sweetness and slight acidity, giving it a rich taste.
Transporting Freshness to Singapore
In collaboration with
East Japan Railway Company (JR East) and
Japan Airlines (JAL), the transportation of these pears will be optimized. By using a combination of Shinkansen (bullet train) and air transport, along with efficient customs procedures, the time between harvest and arrival will be significantly reduced. This ensures that the pears remain fresh and maintain a high sugar content due to being ripened on the tree right up until harvest.
