Okayama University Hosts 4th Global Seminar on Sustainable and Seismic Structures
On November 12, 2025, Okayama University's Green Innovation Center (GIC) organized the 4th Global Seminar on Sustainable and Seismic Structures at the Collaborative Innovation Lab (KIBINOVE) on the 5th floor. This hybrid event, held in both in-person and online formats, aimed to enhance the international research network in structural engineering focused on sustainability and seismic performance.
Approximately 40 participants attended the seminar, with about 25 joining in person and 15 online. The attendees included undergraduate and graduate students from Okayama University, researchers, and students from other domestic universities, as well as representatives from international institutions such as the University of Canterbury in New Zealand, Purdue University in the USA, and Tohoku University in Japan. This diverse group provided a vibrant forum for international and interdisciplinary exchange.
The seminar primarily addressed the sustainability of wooden structures and seismic structural technologies, focusing on global challenges such as achieving a low-carbon society and enhancing urban resilience. Five invited talks by researchers were featured, presenting the latest research findings and facilitating active discussions among participants.
In the closing session, Associate Professor Hamood Alwashari from Okayama University's Graduate School of Environmental Life and Natural Sciences provided a summary of the event. He highlighted the strengthened role of GIC as an international research exchange hub and emphasized the establishment of a crucial foundation for future international collaborative research in sustainable and environmentally considerate infrastructure and architecture.
