CORE Biomedicine Leads the Charge in Oncology with $21 Million Funding and AMED Grant

CORE Biomedicine Secures $21 Million Funding and AMED Grant

In an important advance for cancer treatment, CORE Biomedicine has successfully completed a Series A funding round, raising $21 million. This biotechnology company is dedicated to pioneering lineage-based precision oncology therapies, aiming to enhance treatment options for cancer patients worldwide. The financing round, co-led by UTokyo Innovation Platform Co., Ltd. and Elikon Venture, has also seen significant participation from several prominent investors including InnoPinnacle Fund, Mitsubishi UFJ Capital, and Suzhou Capital Group.

CORE’s unique approach centers around identifying and targeting that's core to oncology, allowing for a greater range of patients to potentially benefit from these new therapies. This lineage-based strategy extends beyond the current genomic methods prevalent in cancer biology, directly addressing a complex issue that has hindered progress in the field.

In addition to the venture capital financing, CORE Biomedicine Japan, a subsidiary of CORE, has received a grant from the Japan Agency for Medical Research and Development (AMED). This grant is part of a competitive initiative designed to bolster the pharmaceutical startup ecosystem in Japan, furthering innovative biotech companies and enhancing the country's biopharmaceutical landscape. The funding will be instrumental in accelerating CORE's research and development efforts, specifically through collaborations with Japanese hospitals, universities, and the larger biopharma community.

Dr. Ping Zhu, Co-Founder and CEO of CORE Biomedicine, expressed significant gratitude towards the investors and partners reinforcing their mission, stating, "This venture financing and AMED's support represent a major milestone for CORE Biomedicine and validate our vision for a new generation of oncology medicines. We aspire to bring transformative therapies to patients around the globe."

Dr. Makoto (Mark) Ohori, Chief Investment Officer at UTokyo Innovation Platform, highlighted the importance of CORE’s approach, emphasizing its capacity to tackle an essential challenge in cancer biology that genomics alone cannot sufficiently address. This venture represents a hopeful trajectory for innovative cancer treatments that are more tailored and effective.

Elikon Venture, established in 2021, praised CORE’s team for their profound insights and unique experience in the oncology sector. The firm is eager to work alongside CORE to develop its promising drug pipeline that targets unmet medical needs, aiming to provide improved clinical outcomes for patients on a global scale.

Founded by former leaders of H3 Biomedicine, CORE Biomedicine stands at the forefront of precision medicine innovation, focusing on core biological pathways that define cancer cell identity. This strategic pivot may lead to first-in-class therapies that can serve broader patient populations, ultimately advancing the fight against cancer.

As CORE Biomedicine continues to make strides in securing funding and establishing meaningful partnerships, the biotechnology field watches closely, hoping for breakthroughs that redefine cancer treatment paradigms. With its innovative lineage-focused methods and robust backing, CORE is poised to become a significant player in the oncology therapeutic landscape, potentially changing the lives of millions worldwide.
