California Transportation Secretary to Speak at AutoMobility LA's Main Stage on Key Issues

Exciting Insights at AutoMobility LA 2025

The AutoMobility LA event is set to take place on November 20, 2025, in Los Angeles, featuring a prominent appearance by California Secretary of Transportation Toks Omishakin. This session is not just a speech; it's an opportunity for journalists and industry leaders to engage directly with one of the foremost voices in transportation today. With the backdrop of AutoMobility LA, known for its focus on innovations in mobility and transportation, Omishakin's participation is timely and vital.

The event will include a live Q&A session where attendees can pose questions and discuss pressing transportation issues that California currently faces. This moment highlights California's ongoing efforts to reshape transportation not just within its borders, but as a model for the nation. Terri Toennies, the President of the Los Angeles Auto Show, said, “California is leading the charge in reshaping transportation policy and integrating innovative solutions in the automotive sector. We are thrilled to host Secretary Omishakin at AutoMobility LA, allowing participants to directly hear the policy movements shaping our future.”

The theme for the midday session, “Direct Line Live with California's Secretary of Transportation Toks Omishakin”, will delve into how California is advancing the next generation of mobility ecosystems through electrification, infrastructure investments, forward-thinking climate policies, and public-private collaborative innovations. Registered attendees will not only have the opportunity to submit questions in advance but also partake in an engaging exchange during the event.

In Omishakin's words, “When policy, innovation, and human-centered values align, California showcases the limitless possibilities of future transport. From enhancing community readiness for zero emissions to establishing global standards for autonomous vehicle safety deployment, we aim to create a cleaner, safer, and more equitable transportation system that benefits all Californians.” These statements resonate with the recent initiatives spearheaded by his office, including the Zero Emission Vehicle Readiness Awards, which celebrates cities and regions at the forefront of promoting clean transportation options.

This award program specifically recognizes communities that excel in expanding charging infrastructure, encouraging the adoption of Zero Emission Vehicles (ZEVs), and crafting equitable, innovative policies—all significant strides toward reducing carbon footprints. Furthermore, the California DMV recently proposed extending autonomous vehicle regulations to include heavy trucks. This initiative aims to fortify California's leadership in AV innovation by creating phased licensing processes with stringent safety and reporting standards, ultimately enhancing road safety and efficiency for goods transportation across the state.

Since assuming the role of Secretary of Transportation in 2022, Omishakin has overseen eight state transportation departments and affiliated boards, managing a workforce of over 42,000 employees and a budget exceeding $32 billion annually. Before his current position, he served three years as the Director of Caltrans. His appearance at AutoMobility LA underscores the event's significant agenda, which includes discussions, speeches, and a preview of media highlights.

As a part of the Los Angeles Auto Show's media and industry preview, AutoMobility LA brings together the global mobility ecosystem to explore the technologies, policies, and partnerships that will define the future of transport. The main stage activities will feature authoritative speakers and industry partners, discussing critical topics via keynote addresses, expert forums, and interactive dialogues.
