Buyer’s Room 2026: Elevating Local Businesses and Products

The Buyer’s Room 2026 initiative has officially opened its registration, aiming to drive local business growth and enhance community-based product visibility. This endeavor, managed by the Specialty Products Evaluation Committee under the auspices of the National Federation of Small Business Associations, seeks to create synergies by harnessing local resources and technologies.

Since its inception in 2020, this project has enabled close to 2 billion yen in economic benefits and generated nearly 2,000 matchmaking opportunities for small-scale enterprises across Japan. The focus on facilitating business negotiations has led to the establishment of numerous commercial talks – 1,996 in total over the past 11 sessions. The upcoming event not only aims to enhance the value of products through awards but strengthens business matchmaking opportunities.

Timeline for Entry Submission

The official entry submission period for the November segment of Buyer’s Room extends from September 1, 2026, at 10 AM to September 30, 2026, at 5 PM. Interested participants are encouraged to apply through the official site before the deadline.

Overview of Buyer’s Room

Buyer’s Room serves as a crucial platform where small-sized enterprises can showcase their products to buyers, chefs, and other stakeholders from the distribution channels. The initiative addresses the common challenges faced by local businesses in product development and market expansion. Participants benefit from the opportunity to negotiate and make commercial connections without incurring travel expenses, making this an attractive option for small producers.

Evaluation and Awards

The evaluation day is set for November 10, 2026, where about 40 buyer companies including supermarkets, select shops, and online retailers will gather to taste and assess products. This event will culminate in the presentation of various prestigious awards, including the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Award and the Director-General of the Small and Medium Enterprise Agency Award. The award winners will be based on a conjunction of voting results from the September segment and the November tasting event, with an announcement anticipated in December 2026.

Recognition of Excellence

Products that receive awards will see promotional support through the established 'Team Chef' project, which has created over 900 connections between buyers and small businesses per year. Through targeted outreach to over 50 distribution stakeholders, award-winning products will gain visibility, enhancing market presence.

Past Achievements

The project has a track record of substantial success, with findings showing that 63 products generated over 1 million yen each due to the project’s matchmaking effort. Altogether, since 2020, the initiative has contributed approximately 2.37 billion yen in sales effects, demonstrating its significance in empowering local entrepreneurs.

Application Process

To participate, applicants need to register on the National Federation of Small Business Associations’ CANVAS platform where the entry form is located. The application site link can be found here. Note that creating a CANVAS account is a prerequisite for registration.
