About Tada Takuo

Born in 1956 in Hiroshima, Tada Takuo began making paper airplanes during his university years after experiencing health issues. After dropping out, he joined King Invest (now Castem) in 1980. In 1995, he established the Japan Origami Airplane Association and has authored numerous books on the subject. Under his leadership, the Castem group has not only supported the growth of this craft but also set new Guinness World Records for flight times.

Achievements in Paper Airplane Records

Over the years, Takuo has faced challenges in pursuit of world records. In 2016, his colleague Nobuaki Fujiwara set a national record of 61.82 meters. As Fujiwara prepared for more ambitious feats, he teamed up with Umeno in 2024, who famously threw the “Ume-chan Bazooka.” Despite falling short of the ultimate Guinness World Record of 88.318 meters, they successfully broke the national record again with a distance of 64.652 meters.

This newly released book extensively covers the record-setting paper airplanes and provides instructions for replica aircraft so readers can try their hands at breaking records themselves. Enjoy the thrill of bringing history back to life!

The Japan Origami Airplane Association

Founded in 1995, the Japan Origami Airplane Association is dedicated to promoting this traditional paper folding craft and training certified instructors. With a mission to make origami airplanes accessible and fun, the association operates the Origami Airplane Museum in Fukuyama, Hiroshima, showcasing 400 original models, and the Toyomatsu Paper Airplane Tower in Jinsekikogen, Hiroshima. They also conduct workshops and competitions worldwide.
