FirstEnergy Foundation Awards $60,000 to Help Ohio Nonprofits Support Vulnerable Communities

FirstEnergy Foundation's Generosity in Action



The FirstEnergy Foundation has made a significant contribution to Ohio communities, announcing the allocation of $60,000 as part of its annual initiative dubbed the “Gifts of the Season.” This generous grant is aimed at bolstering four deserving nonprofits dedicated to serving the people in Ohio. Each of these organizations plays a crucial role in uplifting vulnerable populations, showcasing the importance of their missions in fostering diverse and inclusive communities throughout the region.

Nonprofits Receiving Support


The funds are directed towards the following 501(c)(3) organizations:

1. Project Woman: Based in Springfield and Clark counties, this organization received $10,000 to assist survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. Through safe shelter and trauma-informed services, Project Woman aims to empower individuals to reclaim their lives and thrive.

2. D.R. Services, Inc.: Located in Ashland County, D.R. Services, Inc. also received $10,000. This nonprofit focuses on helping individuals with disabilities lead self-directed lives, allowing them to pursue their dreams through training and support.

3. Catholic Charities: Awarded $20,000, Catholic Charities serves Lake County, benefiting from FirstEnergy's support to advance its Hispanic Outreach Program. This initiative seeks to provide essential human services in Spanish, catering specifically to the Hispanic community's needs.

4. Sofia Quintero Arts Cultural Center: This organization, located in Lucas County, works to promote Hispanic culture through various programs, including art, dance, and culinary workshops. It also received $20,000, which will enable it to expand its community outreach and engagement initiatives.

Torrence Hinton, Ohio President at FirstEnergy, expressed pride in supporting these transformative organizations. He emphasized that their missions resonate with FirstEnergy's commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, ensuring that all community members feel safe, valued, and respected.

“This initiative aligns with our core values and enhances the quality of life for some of Ohio’s most vulnerable populations,” said Hinton. The selection process involved FirstEnergy External Affairs staff members, who identified organizations making profound local impacts.
