Kiddie Academy Students Create Recycled Art for Earth Day

In a remarkable initiative, Kiddie Academy® Educational Child Care centers across the nation are hosting an Earth Day art contest. This event highlights the ingenuity of young minds, as students harness reused and recycled materials to express their creativity in alignment with the theme “Our Colorful Planet.”

This hands-on activity caters to children as young as two years old, providing a developmentally suitable way for them to grasp important concepts such as recycling and environmental stewardship. Joy Turner, vice president of education at Kiddie Academy, emphasizes that instilling good citizenship begins at an early age. She explains, “Through enjoyable activities, such as art projects, children learn to take tangible action regarding what they’ve studied.” Thus, creating recycled Earth Day art serves as an engaging avenue for children to comprehend how to protect the environment while honing their artistic skills.

Each participating Academy will amalgamate the children’s art to form a large-scale, collaborative installation that illustrates the vibrant colors found in nature. As part of this project, children are invited to articulate their creative processes, allowing educators to observe how they apply what they learn from the Life Essentials® curriculum. To incentivize creativity and community involvement, Kiddie Academy pledges to donate $1,000 to a non-profit environmental organization on behalf of the Academy that showcases originality, craftsmanship, and significant student participation in their art installation.

Turner explains the educators’ approach to facilitating these projects, stating, “Our focus is on the learning process rather than the final product, enabling children to explore their interests without constraints.” This method not only cultivates originality but also allows for documentation of their journey, which fosters pride and confidence among the children.

Moreover, Kiddie Academy continues its commitment to environmental responsibility by making an annual contribution to the National Forest Foundation. For every open Academy, a tree will be planted, and in 2025 alone, over 345 trees are projected to be planted. To date, Kiddie Academy has sponsored more than 5,000 trees, reflecting its dedication to sustainability efforts.
