A Fall to Remember: Korean Movies at Jinbocho Theatre
This autumn, Jinbocho Theatre in Kanda, Tokyo, is set to delight cinephiles with a unique double feature program. Known for premiering classic Japanese cinema, the theatre is introducing an exceptional focus on Korean movies from November 22 to November 23, 2025, as part of the K-BOOK Festival 2025. This marks the first-time presentation of Korean films at Jinbocho, showcasing the theatre's commitment to preserving the art of film through 35mm projections.
The first film in this special selection is
Pure Love, released in 2001, directed by Lee Jo-en, and featuring the talents of Lee Jung-jae, Akane Misato, and Kim Min-hee. This unique love story revolves around two clumsy yet sincere individuals navigating the complexities of romance. Screening will be held on November 8 and 9 at 5:45 PM and from November 10 through November 14 at 7:15 PM.
The second film,
Spring Days Pass, came out in 2002 under the direction of Hur Jin-ho and stars Yoo Ji-tae, Lee Young-ae, and Baek Seung-hee. Set against the backdrop of Korea’s stunning seasons, this film beautifully explores adult relationships. It's scheduled for screenings on November 15, 16 at 5:45 PM and from November 17 to 21 at 7:15 PM.
In light of the successful response to the June screening of
The Tigers: The World Awaits Us, the theatre will also host a special screening of
The Tigers: A Glorious Invitation. This film, released in 1968, is the second feature starring the iconic band, The Tigers, famous for spearheading the Group Sounds (GS) boom in Japan. The special screenings will alternate between a traditional quiet viewing experience and an interactive cheering session, allowing fans to engage with the movie. Experience the nostalgia of the era by cheering along with penlights in hand on November 15 at 1:15 PM, November 17 at 2:15 PM, and November 19 at 2:15 PM. Alternatively, catch the normal screenings on November 16 at 3:30 PM, November 18 at 12:00 PM, November 20 at 4:30 PM, and November 21 at 12:00 PM.
For those who prefer a more vibrant atmosphere, the cheer screenings will permit applause, singing, and waving of penlights, creating a lively environment. However, certain rules apply, such as prohibiting loud instruments or wellbeing impairing items that may obstruct the view.
Tickets for general admission are priced at ¥1,400, with discounts available for seniors and students, while special cheer screenings will also follow this pricing structure. Pre-sale tickets will be available starting October 31, ensuring fans can secure their spots for this exciting debacle. Keep an eye on the theatre’s official site for further details, ticket purchase links, and updates on the K-BOOK Festival.
Enjoy a unique cultural festival experience this fall at Jinbocho Theatre, where classic films and lively interactions come together for a memorable cinematic evening. Whether you're watching a film or cheering for your favorite stars, this is an opportunity not to be missed!
