LG Electronics Champions Sustainability with Community Initiatives for Earth Day 2025
On April 24, 2025, LG Electronics took a significant step in promoting sustainability and community engagement by celebrating Earth Day with impactful initiatives across North America. At the heart of LG's efforts was the vision of creating a 'Better Life for All,' which brought together employees, partners, and local communities through various activities aimed at fostering environmental consciousness.
LG's initiatives this year featured a combination of technological innovation and hands-on community involvement. The company hosted e-waste recycling drives in six locations, including Englewood Cliffs, NJ; Huntsville, AL; Clarksville, TN; Lincolnshire, IL; Santa Clara, CA; and Toronto, Canada. These drives collected over 3,500 pounds of outdated electronics, showcasing LG's commitment to responsible recycling practices. Partnering with ERI, the largest e-waste recycler in the U.S., LG aimed to raise awareness about the importance of proper disposal of electronic waste. Through wide-reaching events like these, LG is working toward a broader circular economy initiative, having recycled over 3.7 million pounds of e-waste in April alone. Their goal for 2025 is to manage the recycling of more than 50 million pounds of e-waste, demonstrating their dedication to creating smarter waste solutions.
The support of local wildlife also featured prominently in LG's Earth Day activities. Collaborating with the National Wildlife Federation (NWF), LG employees built nesting boxes designed to offer safe havens for local wildlife. This effort not only aims to enhance biodiversity but also reinforces the idea that corporations can positively influence their environment. At LG’s headquarters in Englewood Cliffs, team members contributed by planting 100 native plants, further promoting a healthy ecosystem.
In Canada, LG's e-waste drive incorporated participation from over 150 students from Centennial College, exemplifying the impact of community collaboration. Chris Jung, President & CEO of LG Electronics North America, emphasized the pivotal role of technology in fostering a better future. He noted that Earth Day allows LG to illustrate how collaborative efforts and technology can address significant challenges, from resource efficiency to wildlife rehabilitation.
But LG’s initiatives didn’t stop at community events. They also took to their tech platforms to reach a wider audience. In May, they will launch the Endangered Species Awareness Series on their iconic Times Square billboard featuring a stunning 3D animated campaign that highlights the West Indian Manatee. This striking display, created in partnership with the NWF, employs digital storytelling to connect millions to vital conservation messages.
To date, LG has pledged $165,000 to the NWF to bolster efforts protecting wildlife and natural habitats. Carey Stanton, Head of Innovation and Partnerships at NWF, commended LG's collaboration, emphasizing how their combined direct actions and overarching initiatives provide a roadmap for other corporations aiming to make a meaningful environmental impact.
In conjunction with these endeavors, LG participated in the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s 'Make Your Energy Choices Count' campaign. This initiative offers promotions on ENERGY STAR® certified appliances, making energy-efficient options more accessible to consumers. Through these promotional efforts, LG continues its tradition of innovation while championing eco-friendly practices.
Through the lens of Earth Day, LG turns the spotlight on the power of community and technology in driving positive environmental change. The company's efforts exemplify an ongoing commitment to sustainability, proving that impactful actions can resonate far beyond a single day of recognition.
