Roundup Settlement Outreach Begins in New York City to Assist Outdoor Workers and Landscapers
Roundup Settlement Outreach Begins in New York City and Long Island
This week, community outreach teams are set to launch in New York City and Long Island, aimed at assisting landscapers, gardeners, and outdoor workers with vital information concerning a class action settlement related to Roundup, valued at $7.25 billion. The outreach initiative targets individuals who frequent farmer's markets and community gathering spots across regions including the Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn, and Long Island.
New York City's metropolitan area boasts one of the highest concentrations of landscaping and groundskeeping workers in the United States. These professionals not only service properties in affluent regions such as Manhattan and Westchester but also reside in various communities throughout the Bronx, Queens, and Brooklyn, along with Nassau and Suffolk counties.
The outreach forms part of a court-approved notification process stemming from the case King v. Monsanto Company. This lawsuit pertains to claims that exposure to Roundup® and other herbicides is linked to Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma, a type of blood cancer.
Teams will engage with workers in frequently visited locations including weekly farmers' markets and green markets in Brooklyn and Queens, flea markets, soccer fields, places of worship, and other community meeting spots during early morning hours, prior to the start of the workday.
The settlement encompasses numerous herbicide products containing glyphosate produced by Monsanto, not limited solely to those marketed under the Roundup brand. It enables any individual in the United States who has had contact with these products before February 17, 2026, to file a claim. This includes anyone who has applied the product professionally or utilized herbicides at home.
Individuals diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma may be eligible for compensation ranging from $6,000 to over $165,000, depending on the nature of their exposure, their specific diagnosis, and their age at the time of diagnosis.
Importantly, even if individuals currently feel healthy, participation in the settlement may significantly impact their legal rights. Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma may take a decade or even longer to develop post-exposure, which is why the agreement extends coverage to those not yet diagnosed with cancer, ensuring that claims can be filed for up to 21 years. Anyone opting to remain part of the settlement will forfeit their right to independently sue Monsanto.
For those wishing to exclude themselves from the settlement and maintain their right to pursue independent legal action against Monsanto, they must file a request for exclusion no later than June 4, 2026. Individuals may also object to the terms of the settlement before the same deadline. If no action is taken, they will automatically remain part of the settlement and be bound by its conditions. A final approval hearing is scheduled for July 9, 2026.
