ITE Collaborates with CONCOR to Launch India’s First Net-Zero Cold Chain Logistics Platform

ITE Introduces India's First Net-Zero Cold Chain Logistics Platform

On February 11, 2026, in New Delhi, ITE Corporation—known for its energy-efficient cold chain solutions—joined forces with ICEBATTERY India and the Container Corporation of India Ltd. (CONCOR) to announce India's inaugural net-zero cold chain logistics platform utilizing their innovative IceBattery® technology. This unveiling coincides with India's National Foundation Day, symbolizing a significant step towards decarbonizing cold chain infrastructure through Indo-Japanese collaboration.

Addressing the Challenges of Temperature-Controlled Logistics in India

India faces critical obstacles in the logistics of agricultural products and pharmaceuticals due to insufficient temperature management infrastructure. Consequently, there is an urgent need to enhance energy efficiency while minimizing losses. The IceBattery® system employs advanced cooling technology, reducing dependence on traditional diesel and electric refrigeration. Key advantages of this technology include:
  • - Reduction in fuel consumption by over 50%
  • - Stabilization of peak electrical loads
  • - Minimized CO₂ emissions
  • - Efficient temperature control during transport delays or power outages
  • - Preservation of agricultural goods’ freshness and reduction of waste

By aligning with ESG investment criteria and supporting the Indian government's targets for net-zero emissions, IceBattery® strengthens its role in sustainable logistics.

Multi-Modal Integration: Transforming Transport Methods

The IceBattery® technology is designed as a comprehensive platform that integrates railway and land transportation, along with portable refrigeration units. This includes:
  • - ISO containers for rail/ocean transport (available in 40FT and 20FT sizes)
  • - Refrigerated trucks (available in 32FT, 24FT, 20FT, and 10FT for last-mile delivery)
  • - Portable refrigerated facilities (20FT cold storage units)

These advancements enable temperature-sensitive logistics for various products such as agricultural goods, dairy, seafood, and pharmaceuticals, facilitating a wide range of cold chain operations.

Strategic Partnership with CONCOR for Local Production

By partnering strategically with CONCOR—India's leader in rail container transport—ITE aims to expand its use of IceBattery® technology within the realm of cold railway transport. Additionally, ITE has entered a memorandum of understanding with local company Kalyani Cast Tech to commence the domestic production of IceBattery®-equipped containers under the 'Make in India' initiative. This move is set to boost local production rates, create jobs, and establish a sustainable manufacturing base within the country.

Voices from Leadership

Sanjay Swarup, Chairman and Director of CONCOR, stated, "This technology has proven effective in Japan, and we anticipate its high performance in the Indian context, paving the way for its expansion in rail and ocean logistics."

Pankaj Garg, CEO of ITE, emphasized that by utilizing this technology, CONCOR can address critical issues in India related to agricultural loss and electricity demand. Furthermore, Tadashi Ishida, Senior Advisor at ITE and former Chairman of JR Freight and Vice President of Nippon Yusen, remarked, "IceBattery® offers a new model for low-temperature logistics that aligns with high reliability and low carbon output. It has the potential to set international standards for sustainable logistics and contribute to solving various challenges in India."

A New Phase in Indo-Japanese Infrastructure Cooperation

This initiative marks a new chapter in infrastructure cooperation between Japan and India, combining cutting-edge cooling technology with India's manufacturing capabilities and CONCOR’s extensive railway network. Looking ahead, the goal is to not only fortify the domestic supply chain but also to explore opportunities across Asian, Middle Eastern, and African markets, thus building an international model for low-carbon logistics infrastructure.
