Idemitsu Launches Tochou Electric Power Plan
Idemitsu Kosan Co., Ltd., headquartered in Chiyoda, Tokyo, has officially launched its application process today for purchasing surplus electricity from households in Tokyo under the Tochou Electric Power Plan. This initiative aims to contribute to the realization of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s commitment to achieving a zero-carbon emission Tokyo by 2050.
Overview of the Tochou Electric Power Plan
Since the fiscal year 2020, Idemitsu has been recognized as a supplier for the Tochou Electric Power Plan for six consecutive years. The plan allows the purchase of surplus FIT electricity from Tokyo households, and this year, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government will enhance the purchase price by an additional 1.5 yen per kWh. This surplus electricity will be combined with power generated from solar facilities owned by the Tokyo government, thereby supplying renewable energy that is effectively 100% carbon-free to municipal facilities.
Key Details of the Power Purchase Program
The Tochou Electric Power Plan focuses on acquiring surplus electricity from residential solar power systems in Tokyo (excluding islands). Here are the important details regarding the electricity purchase:
- - Eligibility: Residential solar power system owners in Tokyo (not including islands) with the surplus FIT electricity.
- - Purchase Period: From the meter reading date in December 2025 to the day before the meter reading date in December 2026.
- - Purchase Price: 11 yen per kWh, including tax (this amount incorporates the Tokyo government’s additional price of 1.5 yen per kWh).
- - Application Method: Interested parties can apply via the dedicated webpage at Idemitsu Tochou Power.
Commitment to Renewable Energy
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government aims to achieve 100% renewable energy usage in its facilities. Through the Tochou Electric Power Plan, Idemitsu will significantly contribute to this initiative and the broader goal of zero emissions. With expertise in household electricity supply and a diverse portfolio that includes solar, biomass, geothermal, and wind power, Idemitsu is well-positioned to promote the use of renewable energy in Tokyo.
The company emphasizes that the electricity purchased under this program—derived from FIT renewable energy sources and augmented with non-fossil certificates—will effectively be recognized as 100% renewable energy, achieving substantial reductions in CO2 emissions.
Future Prospects
As the year progresses, the purchasing limit for surplus FIT electricity remains set at 17,000 kW (approximately 5,000 households), similar to the previous year. Idemitsu’s commitment to this initiative not only aligns with government efforts but also showcases its dedication to sustainable energy solutions.
This announcement marks a significant step in furthering the utilization of renewable resources within Tokyo’s infrastructure, helping the city inch closer to its ambitious environmental goals.
