Diana Colella Takes the Helm at Autodesk's Architecture, Engineering and Construction Business

Autodesk Names Diana Colella to Lead AEC Business

In a significant leadership change, Autodesk, Inc. has announced the appointment of Diana Colella as executive vice president of its architecture, engineering, and construction (AEC) division. This new role comes as the company embarks on a pivotal phase of growth, focusing on Autodesk Forma, its industry cloud designed specifically for AEC. Colella succeeds Amy Bunszel, who is set to retire but will assist with the transition until November 2, 2026.

Transitioning Leadership in AEC

Andrew Anagnost, President and CEO of Autodesk, expressed confidence in Colella's capabilities during this critical moment for the AEC sector. He stated, "AI creates new possibilities for how buildings and infrastructure are designed, built, and operated." Under Bunszel’s leadership, the AEC team established a strong business foundation, and now Colella is tasked with advancing this momentum further.

Colella’s responsibilities will include driving initiatives tied to Autodesk Forma, which connects data, context, and workflows to facilitate AI and project intelligence throughout the AEC project lifecycle. This platform aims to navigate the increasing complexities associated with modern construction and design projects, enabling firms to operate more efficiently and effectively.

Diana Colella’s Background and Experience

Diana Colella's extensive background at Autodesk, spanning nearly three decades, makes her a fitting choice to lead the AEC division. She joined the company following its acquisition of Discreet Logic and has held various leadership positions, including the helm of Autodesk's AutoCAD business and spearheading the launch of One AutoCAD.

Most recently, Colella has been at the forefront of transforming Autodesk's Media & Entertainment (ME) division, which saw the rollout of the Flow platform strategy. She has expanded Autodesk's role within the production lifecycle through acquisitions of companies such as Moxion, PIX, and Wonder Dynamics. In her new position, she will continue to oversee the ME division while searching for a new leader to report to her.

Colella is keenly aware of the challenges AEC clients face amid rapid technological advancements and resource constraints. She stated, "My priority is to listen to them, build on the strong foundation Amy and the team have created, and ensure that our work across Forma and AI leads to tangible improvements in the design, construction, and operation of projects."

This commitment to customer collaboration is pivotal for Autodesk as it aims to enhance workflows and facilitate informed decision-making.

Autodesk's Commitment to Creating Value for Customers

Autodesk continues to solidify its standing as a trusted partner for designers, engineers, builders, and creators worldwide. The company's mission revolves around helping customers design and create everything from infrastructure to consumer products. By harnessing the power of data within their Design and Make Platform, Autodesk aims to automate processes and provide AI-driven insights that empower its users.

In this new chapter, Colella's leadership is anticipated to further bridge the gap between traditional engineering practices and the AI-driven future, promoting innovation within the AEC industry. With a strong focus on integrating workflow and AI technologies, Autodesk is positioned to guide its partners through the evolving landscape, emphasizing sustainability and efficiency.
