MillerKnoll Unveils Next-Level Design Experience in Chicago
MillerKnoll, a prominent name in modern design, has made an exciting announcement. The company is unveiling its new flagship location in Chicago just in time for the upcoming Fulton Market Design Days, set to occur from June 9-11, 2025. This new site, which spans eight floors and encompasses nearly 70,000 square feet at 1100 and 1144 West Fulton Market, aims to be a hub of creativity, idea exchange, and innovative design.
Redefining Design Spaces
In a recent statement, MillerKnoll’s CEO, Andi Owen, emphasized the company’s belief that exceptional design should be both visionary and functional. The new flagship is designed to embody this philosophy by offering thoughtfully crafted environments that reflect how people work, gather, and create. This Chicago location adds to MillerKnoll's prestigious portfolio, building on their success with flagship spaces in Dallas, London, and New York City, and further solidifying their commitment to innovative design.
A Harmonious Collaboration of Brands
At the heart of this flagship experience, visitors will find collaborative environments that merge MillerKnoll’s various design brands. The five-story building at 1100 West Fulton Market has been transformed to include a captivating welcome area featuring impressive display walls and exhibition spaces that showcase MillerKnoll’s rich design heritage and cutting-edge product innovations.
The second floor introduces the new MillerKnoll Chicago workplace, designed for high-performance collaboration and social interaction. This space emphasizes flexibility and comfort, tailored to the needs of modern professionals, and is outfitted with products from MillerKnoll’s collective of brands, including Herman Miller and Knoll.
Two Unique Locations
The new flagship experience is split between two main buildings. The first at 1100 West is notable for its showrooms dedicated to Herman Miller and Knoll, promoting a seamless journey across different furniture styles. It also includes showrooms for DatesWeiser and Geiger, alongside an updated Herman Miller retail store that offers personalized design services to help customers discover their ideal solutions.
Directly adjacent, McKnoll’s new 21,000-square-foot location at 1144 West Fulton Market caters to contract showrooms from HAY, Muuto, and NaughtOne. It also features a healthcare solutions area designed to improve patient and provider experience. Landscape architecture firm Michael van Valkenburgh Associates has crafted a beautiful courtyard that harmonizes natural elements with contemporary design, creating an inviting atmosphere for visitors.
In addition to the captivating design displays, the new Design Within Reach store provides a curated selection of modern brands, including options from Herman Miller, Knoll, and many international contemporary design brands.
Building a Design Community
MillerKnoll plans to celebrate the Fulton Market Design Days with engaging events, exhibitions, and collaborative discussions within the design community. The company aims to facilitate critical dialogues around the future of workplace design, healthcare environments, education, and hospitality. This year's events will feature several exciting product launches from their esteemed brand collective.
For instance, Knoll will unveil their Dividends Skyline, a revolutionary open-plan workplace system that supports flexible working and collaboration. Simultaneously, Herman Miller will showcase their performance seating lab to help customers find furniture tailored to their specific comfort needs, highlighting iconic pieces, including a commemorative edition of the Eames® Molded Plastic Dining Chair, which celebrates its 75th anniversary.
Moreover, DatesWeiser will reveal the JD Meeting Table, an enriching extension of their renowned collection, while Geiger previews the minimalist Lijn chair by Carole Baijings, showcasing exceptional craftsmanship in wood.
Looking Ahead,
MillerKnoll is not just stepping into the present of design but is actively shaping the future. Their transformative presence in the Fulton Market district reflects the area’s evolution from an industrial hub to a thriving center for design innovation. As Matthew Stares, Senior Vice President of Global Real Estate, Architecture, and Development mentions, their goal has always been more than simply occupying space; it’s about shaping a community and embracing the essence of contemporary design.
As Design Days approaches, the anticipation for MillerKnoll’s flagship experience continues to build, signaling an exciting era in modern design that honors past achievements while boldly looking toward future innovations.
