Carolinas AGC and State Transportation Departments Honored
In a significant recognition of outstanding contributions to the transportation industry, the Carolinas AGC, North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT), and South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) were awarded the prestigious ARTBA Award during the ARTBA Annual Convention held in Kohler, Wisconsin. This award signifies the recognition given to industry figures and agencies for their exemplary work, particularly those who have made noteworthy efforts in response to crises.
The event witnessed the acceptance of awards by key figures including Patrick Norman, NCDOT State Engineer, Rob Perry, SCDOT Deputy Secretary of Engineering, and Leslie Clark, COO of Carolinas AGC. The acknowledgment came in light of their collaborative efforts in emergency hurricane recovery following the impact of Hurricane Helene, which caused significant disruptions and damages across the Carolinas.
Leslie Clark expressed gratitude towards ARTBA for acknowledging the dedications of the infrastructure community. "Hurricane Helene changed lives and reshaped the landscape across the Carolinas. Our members responded immediately, working alongside NCDOT and SCDOT to repair and rebuild, and that work is still ongoing," Clark stated. This sentiment reflects the tenacity and resilience exhibited by the construction and transportation sectors during challenging times.
In addition to the Carolinas AGC and the state transportation departments, this year’s honors extended to multiple other state DOTs and contractor partners actively involved in hurricane recovery. Among the notable mentions are the Florida Department of Transportation and the Florida Transportation Builders' Association, along with Georgia DOT and the Georgia Highway Contractors Association, and Tennessee DOT alongside the Tennessee Road Builders Association.
The recognition is not only a celebration of past achievements but also serves as a reminder of the critical role of transportation infrastructure in moments of crisis. Dave Bauer, CEO of ARTBA, highlighted the significant impact of transportation professionals during the recovery phase, saying, "In moments of crisis, the importance of transportation infrastructure becomes unmistakably clear. The men and women who worked quickly and collaboratively to rebuild infrastructure following Helene remind us of the vital role transportation professionals play in connecting, restoring, and sustaining American communities."
The convention also featured John Anglin, a member from Branch, who shared his company’s experiences dealing with hurricane recovery challenges during a roundtable discussion. Several other firms associated with the Carolinas AGC are also engaged in efforts to restore critical transportation connections, underscoring the collaborative spirit that characterizes the industry.
As communities continue to navigate the aftermath of disasters, the spotlight remains on the resilience and collective action of the transportation and construction sectors. Carolinas AGC, as the principal construction industry association serving the Carolinas, remains committed to fostering relationships, promoting essential projects, and delivering valuable training and resources to its members, emphasizing safety and community development at the forefront of its mission.
