Hyundai Mobis Aims for Global Top 3 Through Electrification and Innovation
Hyundai Mobis, the sixth-largest automotive supplier in the world, is making significant strides toward becoming one of the top three suppliers globally by focusing on electrification, integration of vehicle functions, and enhancing user experience. During its recent presentation at IAA Mobility 2025 in Munich, Germany, Hyundai Mobis outlined its vision for leading the future mobility market with innovative technologies.
The event featured Axel Maschka, the Executive Vice President and Head of Sales at Hyundai Mobis, who presented insights into current automotive trends alongside the company's cutting-edge technologies. He emphasized three key innovation themes: Sustainable Electrification, Integrated Excellence, and Vision in Motion. These will serve as cornerstones for the company's ongoing research and development efforts aimed at creating a comprehensive product portfolio.
Hyundai Mobis has been proactive in electrification since it launched its battery system business in 2009. Currently, it boasts a diverse battery system portfolio that supports various eco-friendly vehicles. The company is advancing its battery technology development, focusing on improving safety—one of the paramount challenges facing electric vehicle adoption. Among their significant innovations are the creation of a sophisticated battery cooling system and a fire extinguishing agent system designed to tackle overheating and potential fire hazards within battery cells. The dual cooling system controls battery temperature, while the automatic fire suppression system can swiftly quell fires if ignition occurs.
As vehicles evolve towards becoming software-defined, Hyundai Mobis is also pioneering next-generation chassis systems, integrating advanced technologies like steer-by-wire and brake-by-wire. The goal is to enhance the performance and safety of vehicles through a globally unified control system. This integration will allow the management of all vehicle functionalities through a single controller, marking a significant shift in automotive technology.
Hyundai Mobis is also investing in the future of user experience with its ambitious 'Vision in Motion' initiative. This involves integrating electronic technologies to provide immersive experiences for drivers within the vehicle cockpit. A notable highlight is their innovative holographic windshield display (HWD), which uses holographic optical film to project vital vehicle information directly onto the windshield. This cutting-edge display technology exceeds traditional heads-up displays (HUDs) by offering a comprehensive view that can relay navigation data, environmental conditions, and entertainment content without additional screens.
Following its participation in the IAA since 2021, Hyundai Mobis has built a robust partnership network, securing substantial orders for battery systems from major global players like Volkswagen and Mercedes-Benz. The recent establishment of their BSA plant in Spain is set to enhance production capabilities, enabling the company to produce up to 360,000 units annually.
In addition, Hyundai Mobis continues to refine its next-generation integrated digital cockpit named M.VICS, aiming to revolutionize in-car user interfaces. The company is actively collaborating with leading automakers to launch its augmented reality head-up display (AR HUD) technology, which is nearing its market introduction.
Moving forward, Hyundai Mobis is committed to focusing on high-value-added products in the future mobility sector and enhancing its research and development processes. This strategic direction is designed to boost its global market presence, with plans to increase the share of global customers in its core parts segment to 40% by 2033.
Maschka concluded, "Our strategy is to proactively develop differentiated technologies that meet customer needs, drive technological paradigm shifts, and expand our position in the global market. By prioritizing new technology competitiveness, advanced execution capabilities, and speedy delivery, we can secure our place as a leading player in mobility technology."
