Ezurio Unveils Carbon AM67: A Transformative Edge AI Module for Various Applications

Ezurio Launches the Carbon AM67 OSM-MF SOM

Ezurio, a prominent name in the embedded computing and connectivity landscape, has recently introduced the Carbon AM67 OSM-MF System-on-Module (SOM). This cutting-edge module is meticulously crafted for a wide range of demanding applications in industries such as commercial, industrial, and medical HMI (Human-Machine Interface). It stands out for its secure, rugged, and highly configurable nature.

At the heart of the Carbon AM67 is the Texas Instruments (TI) AM67x processor family, which enables a remarkable combination of heterogeneous multiprocessing and advanced AI acceleration. The connectivity options are bolstered by Ezurio’s Sona™ TI351 wireless module, featuring both TI's CC3351 Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth LE capabilities. The entire system incorporates essential components such as a TI TPS65224 PMIC, LPDDR4 RAM, and eMMC storage, all housed within a compact 45 × 30 mm OSM-MF v1.2 standard form factor. This design assures scalability, flexibility, and longevity for its users.

The Carbon AM67 integrates robust security measures right from its design and manufacturing stages to deployment in the field. Pitching its EZ BSP (Board Support Package), Ezurio provides a Chain of Trust that secures the boot process and ensures long-term security releases. Built on open-source foundations such as Yocto and Buildroot, it offers significant advantages including the elimination of vendor lock-in, making it a flexible choice for developers.

Market-Driven Performance Features
As highlighted by Dan Kephart, Senior Product Manager at Ezurio, the Carbon AM67 promises leading-edge computing capabilities. It brings superior tablet-class GPU performance, on-device AI acceleration, and a sophisticated vision pipeline within a compact form factor. The module achieves up to 4 TOPS in deep learning performance and supports triple-display configurations with resolutions reaching 3840 × 1080.

The hardware specifications include an impressive GPU offering 50 GFLOPs, hardware-accelerated 4K60 video encoding/decoding, and a quad MIPI-CSI-2 camera interface that caters to complex multi-camera vision pipelines. Additionally, the Carbon AM67 also features two on-board Deep Learning Accelerators that collectively deliver up to 4 TOPS for edge AI applications.

The versatility of the carbon module extends to its processing cores, comprising four 1.4 GHz Arm Cortex-A53 cores alongside three 800 MHz Arm Cortex-R5F MCU cores that facilitate the simultaneous operation of Linux and real-time operating systems. Security is enhanced with a secure and encrypted boot process along with a dedicated secure enclave for sensitive data storage.

Comprehensive Software Support
Ezurio’s commitment to developers is evident in the extensive software support for the Carbon AM67, including integrations with Yocto Linux, Buildroot, and FreeRTOS. Evaluation kits are also available, featuring options for a 7-inch display plus an 8.3 MP camera, providing an all-in-one development solution for users.

Temperature ratings are customizable with options for commercial at 0 to +70°C or industrial from -40 to +85°C, ensuring the module can be tailored to specific operational environments. Memory choices of 4 GB or 8 GB LPDDR4 and flexible wireless configurations further enhance its adaptability.

According to Sonia Ghelani, product line manager for TI's Sitara™ processors, the AM67x processor family was specifically designed for efficient, scalable edge AI performance, fueling innovation across industrial and IoT sectors. The Carbon AM67 emerges as the industry’s foremost AM67-based SOM integrating TI's Wi-Fi technology, thereby linking TI’s processor strengths with Ezurio’s wireless expertise to facilitate a smoother transition to production for designers.

Global Readiness
All wireless configurations of the Carbon AM67 carry global certifications, allowing Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) to deploy the module worldwide without the hindrance of regulatory delays. Currently, samples of the Carbon AM67 are being distributed, and mass production kits and modules are set to be available by October. For further information, visit www.ezurio.com/carbon-am67-som.
