New Jersey's Zero-Emission Incentive Program Reopens with $37.5 Million Fund for All-Electric Vehicles

New Jersey's Zero-Emission Incentive Program Reopens

In a significant move towards promoting eco-friendly transportation, the New Jersey Zero-Emission Incentive Program (NJ ZIP) has reopened, now featuring a commendable total of $75 million in funding. The program, which restarted on November 24, 2025, is designed to motivate the adoption of all-electric vehicles (EVs) across commercial sectors, thereby contributing to the state's climate objectives. Over two funding rounds, $37.5 million will be available for incentives that are already seeing enthusiastic participation from manufacturers like GreenPower Motor Company.

GreenPower's EV Star Lineup

GreenPower Motor Company, which operates under the ticker symbol GP on NASDAQ, is a pioneer in manufacturing and distributing zero-emission, purpose-built vehicles aimed at the cargo and delivery markets, shuttle services, and school transportation. The full lineup of GreenPower's EV Star vehicles stands out as a key player eligible for this incentive program. The EV Star series includes various models such as the EV Star Passenger Van, EV Star ReeferX, EV Star Mobility Plus, and EV Star Cab Chassis. Depending on eligibility, the incentives can range from $65,000 to over $90,000 per vehicle.

GreenPower’s Vice President of Business Development, Nahui Olin, emphasized the importance of this funding initiative, noting that the diverse lineup of all-electric vehicles is tailored to meet customer needs. The EV Star models boast configurations catering to various requirements, including ADA compliance for passenger vans. Customers can also select from several upfits, providing specialized features like refrigerated units or utility vehicles, effectively aiding their operational needs.

Financing Support and Incentives

In addition to the cash incentives provided under NJ ZIP, the program also introduces the NJ ZEV (Zero Emission Vehicle) Financing Program, offering loans from $50,000 to $500,000 at fixed low-interest rates. This initiative is particularly beneficial for commercial vehicle operators who may face costs not covered by existing vouchers. The financing program can work independently or alongside the NJ ZIP initiative, facilitating a smooth transition to zero-emission vehicles.

As Olin pointed out, the timing could not be more favorable for fleet owners in New Jersey, considering the generous support available to electrify their operations. By facilitating access to eco-friendly vehicles through these programs, the state has positioned itself at the forefront of environmental initiatives, setting a benchmark for other regions.

First-Come, First-Serve Basis

It's important for interested parties to act quickly, as the vouchers under NJ ZIP are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Olin highlighted that early engagement is crucial to ensuring they can secure the funds necessary to transition.

James Titus, General Manager of Wolfington Body Company, echoed Olin’s sentiments, expressing excitement about collaborating with GreenPower to enhance fleet sustainability. As a fifth-generation family-owned business with roots in transportation since 1876, Wolfington aims to assist its clients in adopting safer and more sustainable transit options.

Looking Ahead

GreenPower's commitment to producing a comprehensive range of all-electric vehicles aligns perfectly with the larger goals set forth by New Jersey's environmental policies. As the industry shifts towards more sustainable practices, the reopening of NJ ZIP stands as a pivotal step for businesses looking to implement greener solutions within their logistics and transportation operations.

With significant financial backing available, companies like GreenPower are not only contributing to a more sustainable future but also paving the way for a broader acceptance and reliance on zero-emission vehicles in the everyday economy. The collaborative efforts between state programs and manufacturers highlight a robust strategy toward reducing the carbon footprint of transportation in New Jersey and beyond.

Stay tuned as developments unfold regarding the uptake of these incentives and the launch of innovative electric vehicle models aimed at redefining transportation paradigms.
