Exploring the Richness of Tenuta Luce's Luce Brunello 2021 Release

Introduction to Luce Brunello 2021

Tenuta Luce, known for its exquisite wines, has officially introduced the 2021 vintage of Luce Brunello, a remarkable representation of Brunello di Montalcino. This vintage not only showcases the precision and elegance that the winery is renowned for but also highlights the unique terroir of the region.

The Luce Brunello 2021 is sourced from the estate's prestigious Madonnino vineyard, located at approximately 400 meters above sea level. The perfect combination of the vineyard's elevation, its sun exposure, and the soil ensures optimal conditions for producing high-quality Brunello that reflects its origin and variety impeccably.

The 2021 Vintage Characteristics

The 2021 growing season in Montalcino began with a cold winter that saw limited rainfall, with early February bringing a brief snowfall. As spring set in, temperatures slowly climbed above average by March, encouraging consistent budbreak for Sangiovese grapevines. The summer months were characterized by warm and dry weather, which allowed for a gradual and steady growth cycle for the vines.

Alessandro Marini, Technical Director at Tenuta Luce, emphasizes the significance of the harvest season. He stated, “September was especially favorable, with bright sunny days and cooler nights, creating ideal conditions for enhancing the aromatic intensity of the grapes.” Harvest commenced on September 24th, with the team excited by the quality of the fruit, which was perfectly ripe and proportionate in size.

Vinification Process

Once harvested, the grapes underwent vinification in concrete tanks for approximately ten days under controlled temperatures of 78°F. Skin contact was maintained for around four weeks, allowing for a balanced extraction that showcases the depth and sophistication of the wine. The aging process lasted a minimum of 24 months in traditional Slavonian oak casks before being bottled in July 2025.

Tasting Notes

Luce Brunello 2021 presents a brilliant ruby-red hue. It captures the nose with a refined and elegant aromatic profile, highlighting notes of fresh red berries and red plums, intricately complemented by subtle hints of tobacco. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied and velvety, showcasing a harmonious balance that transitions into citrus and spice nuances, lingering with vibrant freshness and a notably long finish.

Marini concludes, “This Brunello executes the essence of the 2021 vintage with sensitivity, affirming Tenuta Luce's firm commitment to honoring the terroir while perpetually striving for elegance.”
