Supporting International Students: Job Assistance Programs at the 100-Year Student Memorial Center

Empowering International Students through Career Development

The 100-Year Student Memorial Center is dedicated to fostering connections between newly arrived international students and local Japanese youth. Hosting an array of events throughout the year, the center offers programs designed to facilitate interactions and build a supportive network for around 50,000 students annually.

On April 19, the Memorial Center proudly held its inaugural job support seminar within its premises, an event aimed specifically at guiding international students in their job search journey. Ten international students, including representatives from China, participated in the seminar, engaging in discussions on critical topics such as the types and characteristics of Japanese companies, the job application process, and strategies for finding a job that aligns with individual skills and interests.

Feedback from the participants was overwhelmingly positive. One attendee remarked, "The content was incredibly practical—now I know what to emphasize on my resume and what to avoid writing." Another shared, "I had been anxious about job hunting, but after this seminar, I feel clearer about my direction and more confident moving forward." The success of the workshop has set a promising precedent for future events aimed at empowering international students.

Instructor Spotlight: Fujimoto Moriwara

Leading the seminar was Mr. Fujimoto Moriwara, whose expertise stems from his impressive background. A Ph.D. graduate from Hokkaido University, Moriwara—known in China by his birth name, Dr. Wang—previously held a managerial position in the overseas business department of a publicly listed company. With extensive experience in guiding international students on their career paths, he has become an invaluable resource for the attendees.

Looking ahead, the 100-Year Student Memorial Center remains committed to supporting international students in their career development. Scheduled for May 9, the next event will be an intercultural exchange film screening, providing students an opportunity to enjoy international cinema while fostering connections across cultures. The center aims to continually offer platforms for growth and interaction, contributing to regional revitalization and international exchange.
