SUPER FORMULA Partners with raBit and ENEOS for Eco-Friendly Fuel
In a groundbreaking development, the Japan Race Promotion Company, which operates the SUPER FORMULA series, has announced a collaboration with the Next Generation Green CO2 Fuel Technology Research Association (raBit) and ENEOS Corporation to supply low-carbon gasoline (E10) starting in the 2026 season. This partnership marks a significant step towards sustainability in motorsport, aligning with global efforts to reduce carbon emissions.
On August 9 and 10, 2025, a press conference was held in Fukushima Prefecture, known for its ongoing recovery efforts from the Great East Japan Earthquake, prior to the 2025 SUPER FORMULA Round 8 event. The facility tour, attended by representatives from all three organizations, showcased the cellulose ethanol fuel production technology developed by raBit, located in the town of Okuma.
At the event, ENEOS will take the lead in developing high-quality, low-carbon gasoline (E10) that meets the rigorous demands of the racing environment while utilizing the domestically produced cellulose ethanol from raBit. JRP will begin test runs in September 2025, laying the groundwork for utilizing this low-carbon fuel in the upcoming racing season.
Several prominent figures attended the press conference, including JRP President Taro Ueno and raBit Director Akira Nakata, along with ENEOS Executive Officer Yasuhiro Fujiyama and Okuma Town Deputy Mayor Yoshiki Shinbo. During the conference, they highlighted the significance of this collaboration in advancing sustainable practices within the motorsport industry.
Upcoming Development Tests
To further the development of the E10 fuel, a test event will be conducted from September 8 to September 11, 2025, at the Fuji Speedway in Shizuoka Prefecture, with actual car testing scheduled for September 9 to 11. The testing will feature two SF23 development vehicles, codenamed “Akatora” (red tiger) and “Shirotora” (white tiger), driven by renowned champions Yuji Kunimoto and Naoki Yamamoto, who hold multiple series titles.
Participants and media are encouraged to attend and cover this historical moment in racing, as the teams will test the viability of low-carbon gasoline in real racing conditions. Interested media outlets can contact the JRP PR team for further details and to request attendance at the event.
