XL Summit 2025: Pioneering the Future of Faith in Work Dynamics
On July 11, 2025, the annual XL Summit hosted by At Work On Purpose (AWOP) took place at Christ Church in Mason, Ohio. This year, approximately 400 Christian workplace leaders from over 90 cities gathered to explore a compelling new vision, themed "Frontiers,” that seeks to transform workplace ministry and city dynamics.
A Vision for Transformation
According to Chuck Proudfit, founder and president of AWOP, this summit marked a significant launching point, not only for Cincinnati but for the global movement advocating for the integration of faith in work. Proudfit emphasized the fragmented nature of workplace ministry and detailed how many Christian professionals lack vital spiritual support in their careers. AWOP has dedicated more than two decades to building a robust relational network in Cincinnati, addressing this issue by bridging existing divides and fostering collaboration among different sectors of the Church.
The summit featured a multifaceted approach focused on strengthening connections among generations, reflecting on the current challenges faced in workplace ministry, and encouraging Christians to embody their faith in daily work environments.
During a series of captivating panel discussions, Proudfit articulated the importance of building partnerships across various local organizations and the wider Church. Through these collaborations, the ultimate goal remains the complete mobilization of the body of Christ for impactful ministry.
Engaging Discussions and Insights
Two insightful panels delved deeper into faith and workplace integration. The first highlighted local pastors collaborating towards citywide initiatives aimed at incorporating faith-focused programming within Greater Cincinnati congregations. The second concentrated on the burgeoning Refire Ministry, designed to assist retirees in discovering renewed vocational opportunities and making meaningful contributions after their primary careers.
Proudfit pointed out that individuals experience distinct challenges at varying life stages. Young professionals often grapple with identifying their calling versus their career path. In contrast, seasoned professionals may find themselves wrestling with the concepts of mastery versus mediocrity, while veterans focus on legacy versus leisure in retirement. This understanding underscores the necessity for tailored support addressing spiritual and professional needs specific to each stage of career development.
The Future of Faith at Work
The summit showcased Dr. Bill Peel, a renowned author and speaker within the Faith at Work movement, who provided a historical context for the Global Faith at Work Summit initiative. Peel expressed optimism regarding the future, particularly the upcoming gathering scheduled in Cincinnati for 2026, deeming it a game-changing opportunity for advancing the movement on a global scale.
Dr. Eric Swanson, also a distinguished author and city transformation expert, received the Transformation Trailblazer Award at the summit. His keynote address underscored the necessity of integrating faith into everyday work settings. He asserted,
“Working Christians are in the business of building a flourishing world,” encapsulating the essence of what it means to infuse one’s spiritual beliefs into professional practice.
The event also featured remarkable artistry, with speed painter Mark Thesken unveiling his new piece titled "Flourishing Cincinnati,” which embodies the faith-driven vision for the workplace and community.
Three interactive “activation lunches” provided a platform for attendees to engage in deeper conversations regarding three pivotal topics: Faith at Work in the Local Church, the Refire Movement, and the Cincinnati City Transformation Initiative—a commitment to evolve community engagement among Christians.
A New Chapter for Cincinnati
An exciting development during the summit was the announcement of a $435,000 grant awarded to Cincinnati as a pilot city for the CityServe initiative. This program aims to provide immediate help for individuals in crisis through a volunteer-staffed hotline, facilitating connections to local resources and offering compassionate support.
Reflecting on this achievement, Proudfit noted,
“For over two decades, we’ve envisioned a day where Christian leaders unite across our city to foster genuine partnerships. CityServe is a testament to that reality.” He reiterated AWOP’s commitment to fostering cultural and vocational flourishing for working Christians not just in Cincinnati but in cities worldwide.
In conclusion, as highlighted by Proudfit, the model for citywide workplace ministry is evolving. With the collective efforts from various Church segments and broader community support, AWOP is poised to spearhead initiatives that inspire transformative actions and spiritual growth in workplaces everywhere.
