2024 World Conference on Science Literacy: Prioritizing Science Education for Sustainable Development
The 2024 World Conference on Science Literacy (WCSL) commenced in Beijing from December 5-6, 2024, gathering global thought leaders to discuss the vital role of science literacy in fostering sustainable development. Under the motto "Enhance Science Literacy, Empower Joint Development," the event was co-sponsored by the esteemed China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) and supported by prominent organizations such as UNESCO, the International Science Council, and the World Federation of Engineering Organizations.
Ezra Clark, representing UNESCO, opened the conference by announcing the launch of the International Decade of Science for Sustainable Development, running from 2024 to 2033. This initiative seeks to leverage the capabilities of all scientific fields to drive transformative societal, economic, and environmental changes.
