New Study Reveals Discrepancy Between School Leaders and Families on Communication Satisfaction
Understanding the Communication Gap in Education
Recent research has unveiled a significant discrepancy between how school district leaders perceive communication with families and how those families feel about it. The study, conducted by Project Tomorrow in collaboration with ClassDojo, shines a light on an urgent need for reform in K-12 communication practices, emphasizing the importance of both dialogue and deeper connections between educators and families.
The Findings
The report titled "The Family Engagement Disconnect: How Districts Communicate vs. What Families Want and Need" presents alarming statistics. Although 80% of district leaders believe that families are satisfied with school communication, only 56% of families reported satisfaction. This striking 24-percentage-point gap suggests that while leaders are confident about the effectiveness of their communication strategies, families experience these efforts differently.
Dr. Julie A. Evans, the CEO of Project Tomorrow, points out that just sending a message out does not equate to families feeling truly informed or engaged.
