Republic Services Celebrates Excellence at the 2025 ROAD-EO National Championship



On February 18, 2025, Republic Services, Inc. proudly hosted the ROAD-EO National Championship at the Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park in Chandler, Arizona. This biennial event serves as a platform to recognize and celebrate the extraordinary skills and commitment of its drivers, equipment operators, and technicians. With competitors hailing from diverse regions across North America, the competition showcased top talents in the environmental services industry, emphasizing safety and excellence in their respective fields.

The 2025 competition attracted 107 finalists from 36 states and the province of Ontario, all of whom earned their spot by demonstrating exceptional skills in local and regional contests. Participants faced ten distinct competition categories, designed to challenge their technical abilities, technical knowledge, and commitment to safety.

Highlighting Top Performers


The ROAD-EO National Championship featured an array of complex tasks, particularly for collection truck drivers. They were tasked with maneuvering through various challenges, including parallel parking, serpentine obstacles, and alley backing, all within a timed framework. The champions in the collection truck categories emerged as follows:

  • - Ron Torrez, Commerce City, Colorado - Small Container
  • - CJ Hines, Sandusky, Ohio - Rear-Load
  • - Eduardo Lopez, Chula Vista, California - Side-Load
  • - Geno Rushing, Bridgeton, Missouri - Large Container
  • - Eddy Ramos, Baltimore, Maryland - Vac Truck

Additionally, equipment operators showcased their skills in categories including Bulldozer, Wheel Loader, and Forklift. The champions in these categories were:

  • - David Muns, Las Vegas, Nevada - Bulldozer
  • - Steve Smutnik, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania - Wheel Loader
  • - Tyler Barnett, Tulsa, Oklahoma - Forklift

Technicians also played a crucial role, competing in Collection and Post-Collection categories by diagnosing multiple maintenance issues under a tight timeframe. The winners in these groups were:

  • - Conrad Lacanlale, Milpitas, California - Collection Technician
  • - Joe Schubert, Chicago, Illinois - Post-Collection Technician
