Exploring What Can Be Done 80 Years After the War: Nonbiru July/August Issue
The Paru System Cooperative Association is excited to announce the start of orders for the July/August issue of its informational magazine, Nonbiru, beginning June 16. As we approach the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II, this issue takes a closer look at the societal challenges we face, emphasizing the need for a peaceful community free from disparities and divisions.
Amplifying Small Voices to Create Big Impact
The year 2025 marks a significant milestone. The July/August issue of Nonbiru features the theme, "What Can I Do Before This World Breaks Apart?" focusing on individuals who are taking action in pursuit of a peaceful and equitable world.
One featured group, the "Political Craft Club," undertook a project ahead of International Women's Day on March 8, creating banners infused with political messages through crafting. In 2025, they assembled parts infused with wishes and prayers from 122 individuals, ultimately parading a gigantic "Resistance" banner through the streets of Shibuya. This project showcases how crafting, a historically utilized tool by women for social protest, can amplify individual voices into a powerful collective force.
The magazine also recounts the inspiring story of how an ordinary citizen organized the first Peace Walk in Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture, in response to the tragic events of September 11, 2001. Taking that first step led to a blossoming community of activists united by shared empathy and eagerness to expand their mission.
Addressing Vital Social Issues
The July/August issue also discusses pressing topics such as nuclear power issues and the struggles faced by refugees and immigrants, fostering understanding and collaboration around diverse social challenges.
Remembering Shinobu Edamoto
In the Nonbiru Interview segment, we pay tribute to the late cooking researcher Nahomi Edamoto, who passed away in February this year. Colleagues from the magazine Big Issue share their memories of her impactful life. Edamoto was known for her unwavering commitment to addressing poverty, having contributed to the publication's ongoing narratives about supporting the self-reliance of the homeless. Her warm personality and dedication to achieving a society where no one goes hungry will be fondly remembered.
A Magazine for a Better Future
Nonbiru aims to support individuals who aspire to live vibrantly and authentically, advocating for a community where people help one another in times of need.
