The American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS) has recently published its 2025 Procedural Statistics Report, revealing an exciting trend in the world of cosmetic surgery. Having established itself as a premier authority in this field, ASPS highlights how recent shifts in patient preferences and motivations are reshaping the landscape of aesthetic enhancement.
In 2025, there was a notable 7% increase in the number of cosmetic surgical procedures performed compared to the previous year. Procedures such as liposuction, breast augmentation, and abdominoplasty (commonly known as tummy tucks) have topped the list as the most sought-after treatments. Not surprisingly, the popularity of minimally invasive procedures continues to rise sharply, with neuromodulators and hyaluronic fillers making up a robust 80% of all such interventions last year. Furthermore, reconstructive surgery also saw growth, particularly in hand reconstruction and scar revision, marking a 6% increase overall.
A spotlight in this year's report shines on patient motivations, specifically those seeking surgical consultations related to GLP-1 weight loss treatments and breast implant sizes. According to ASPS-member surgeons, the desire for restoration following significant life events, including pregnancy, aging, and weight changes, has become the leading factor driving patient interest. Enhancing aesthetic appeal, boosting confidence, and addressing long-standing concerns were also identified as common reasons for seeking out plastic surgery.
"Plastic surgery in 2025 indicates a broader change in public perception around aging, wellness, and overall quality of life," remarked C. Bob Basu, MD, MBA, MPH, FACS, President of ASPS. "Today’s patients are increasingly gravitating towards authentic restoration rather than complete transformation. Many are on a pursuit to reverse physical changes that no longer match their inner self."
Surge in Lift Procedures
Among the most striking statistics from the report, facial fat grafting demonstrated an impressive 39% growth, establishing it as the fastest-growing procedure of 2025. Additionally, various lift procedures showed substantial increases over the previous year. Notable growth rates included:
- - Forehead/brow lifts surged by 29%
- - Upper body lifts rose by 22%
- - Both arm and neck lifts increased by 21%
- - Thigh lifts grew by 20%
- - Facelifts experienced a growth of 13%
- - Breast lifts went up by 8%
An intriguing aspect reported was that 82% of ASPS-member surgeons received consultation requests tied to GLP-1 usage. While this reflects an increase in discussions regarding the topic, the report clarifies that there is no direct causative correlation with the growth of specific procedures.
"When individuals undergo significant weight loss, various issues such as excess skin, changes in skin quality, and loss of volume in the face and body arise, often unable to be remedied through conventional diet or exercise. For many, plastic surgery becomes a vital component in achieving a restored, natural contour and proportion, ultimately enhancing comfort and confidence within their own skin," Dr. Basu explained.
Age Demographics in Demand
The report further specifies the growing demand for cosmetic procedures among older adults, with individuals aged 66 and above witnessing a commendable 24% increase in procedure volume, marking the highest growth among all age demographics. Meanwhile, 36 to 55-year-olds continue to dominate the trends, accounting for nearly half of all cosmetic surgeries. Interestingly, there was a noted 9% decline in procedure volume for the youngest demographic (18 to 25).
Insights into 2025 Trends
Several emerging trends are encapsulated in the report, emphasizing the surge in lift procedures, heightened interest in facial volume restoration, and a substantial increase in cosmetic interventions among older adults. These insights elaborate on how evolving patient demands shape and define the future of plastic surgery.
Regardless of growing interest in aesthetic modifications, ASPS emphasizes the importance of safety. Patients are encouraged to select board-certified plastic surgeons. ASPS provides tools for finding qualified professionals that align with each individual's needs, promoting informed choices and enhancing overall safety.
