Wacoal Launches New Girdles with Student Designs
In an innovative collaboration, Wacoal, a renowned lingerie brand based in Kyoto, has partnered with Konan Women's University located in Kobe to create a unique line of girdles. This initiative, conducted through the university's Department of Human Science, allows students to immerse themselves in the design process, ensuring that the final products resonate with their peers.
Starting on August 14, 2025, Wacoal will launch the new girdles on their official website, followed by availability in stores and other e-commerce platforms starting August 28. This project aims to increase awareness and interest in girdles among younger consumers, a demographic that may not yet be familiar with the product through a hands-on approach and real-life fittings.
The project took off in May 2024 when students who had never worn girdles were introduced to the product. They engaged in fitting sessions, gaining an appreciation for the benefits girdles can offer. With insights gained from these sessions, students shared their preferred styles through a design board, which Wacoal's designers used as a reference. From the suggestions presented, students took the lead in selecting the final designs.
