UScellular Sets GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS for Longest Temporary Mini Golf Hole in Iowa

UScellular Breaks GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS Title

UScellular has made headlines by officially securing the GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title for the longest temporary mini golf hole, constructing an impressive 507-foot course in Des Moines, Iowa. This remarkable achievement surpasses the previous record of 492 feet, showcasing UScellular's commitment to bringing communities together for a day of fun and excitement.

Event Highlights

On June 23, hundreds of local residents gathered at Cowles Commons to enjoy a variety of activities, including the opportunity to play on the newly built mini golf hole. The event, dubbed "Unplug Play Day," was designed to encourage families to step away from their screens and engage in more interactive, real-world experiences. Alongside the mini golf, attendees enjoyed face painting, a giant puzzle, and mural painting, creating a vibrant atmosphere conducive to community bonding.

Michael Empric, a Guinness World Records adjudicator who attended the event, expressed his enthusiasm about the initiative. He noted, "Congratulations to UScellular on its GUINNESS WORLD RECORDS title. It was an honor to be a part of something created for the community, and it was exciting to see so many people come out to enjoy the day."

Inspired by the Community

The inspiration for this giant mini golf hole came from UScellular’s Board of Connectors, a group of youth from local Boys & Girls Clubs and children of UScellular employees. These youngsters aimed to create fun and engaging alternatives for families to promote healthier digital habits. Earlier in the year, they met with UScellular’s CEO, Laurent "LT" Therivel, to brainstorm ways to enhance their favorite local spots.

Brennen, a member of the Board of Connectors from Iowa, shared his excitement: "This was such a fun day and even better than I imagined seeing our ideas come to life. It was cool to be part of breaking a Guinness World Records title right here in Iowa!"

Taking Mini Golf Greater Distances

The fun does not finish in Des Moines. UScellular plans to bring the Unplug Play Day experience to other locations, including Cedar Rapids, Iowa on June 28, Green Bay, Wisconsin on July 12, and Bangor, Maine on July 26. Participants can visit uscellular.com/unplugging for further details.

Verchele Roberts, vice president of brand management at UScellular, expressed gratitude to the Des Moines community for their support. She stated, "Whether you are a mini golf enthusiast or have never played before, we wanted to bring family and friends together to unplug and enjoy meaningful quality time away from screens. We look forward to sharing this unique experience with even more people throughout the summer."
