HAL Technical School Shines at CAPCOM GAMES COMPETITION
In a remarkable achievement, HAL Technical School has swept the awards at the inaugural
CAPCOM GAMES COMPETITION, organized by the renowned video game company Capcom. Their game,
'octΩpus', clinched the prestigious grand prize, earning a substantial reward of
5 million yen along with various accolades, including the
AWS Award and
Turtle Beach Award. Furthermore, another HAL project,
'ATEA: THE LOST SEEKER', was honored with a special award, highlighting the school's exceptional capabilities in game design and development.
The competition aimed to nurture young creators and was open to students over the age of 18 from universities, graduate schools, and technical colleges across Japan. Out of
93 teams that participated, only
14 finalists were selected, and HAL proudly secured
two out of five awards, further asserting its excellence in the field.
Capcom provided participants with the opportunity to utilize its cutting-edge game development engine,
RE ENGINE, allowing students to create high-quality games that could potentially see commercial release. The judges included notable figures from Capcom, such as
Jun Takeuchi, Executive Officer, who praised 'octΩpus' for its outstanding visual design and high level of completion. He noted, "The teamwork displayed to produce such a high-quality product is truly remarkable."

Yoshitaka Suzuki, Director of
Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak, commended the game for its technical excellence and innovative designs, emphasizing how intuitive gameplay mechanics effectively communicate how players can engage with the game. He also highlighted the clever structuring of the game, which encourages players to keep coming back for more.
The team behind 'octΩpus' consisted of 17 dedicated individuals, including
leader Masahiro Ioka and members like
Akito Kishimoto and
Tomoya Mukai. They expressed their joy and relief upon receiving the award, reflecting on their intense passion and commitment during the development process. They credited their experiences in team projects within HAL's curriculum for helping them produce such a successful game.
For their outstanding work, 'octΩpus' not only secured the grand prize of 5 million yen but also a PlayStation 5 Pro, a Nintendo Switch, and a GeForce RTX 5070 graphics card, along with additional awards from various sponsors. Meanwhile, 'ATEA: THE LOST SEEKER,' led by
Eiichi Hamayama, received a special award of 1 million yen and a Nintendo Switch, further showcasing HAL's talent.
