Clé de Peau Beauté Revives Partnership with UNICEF to Empower Millions of Girls Worldwide

Clé de Peau Beauté Renews Commitment to Empower Girls with UNICEF

Clé de Peau Beauté has taken a monumental step by renewing its three-year partnership with UNICEF, signifying an ongoing commitment to uplift and empower an additional 7.3 million girls worldwide. With a substantial financial commitment of $17.4 million made since 2019, this partnership now represents the largest contribution from the private sector towards UNICEF's Global Programme for Gender Equality, designed to accelerate positive changes for adolescent girls.

To date, this collaborative effort has reached over 12.9 million girls across the globe, significantly exceeding initial expectations. As the partnership enters its next phase, it aims to broaden its focus to encompass a greater emphasis on STEAM education—which includes the arts alongside traditional STEM disciplines—integrating creativity with scientific and technological learning.

For instance, initiatives in Indonesia are already empowering girls by combining scientific knowledge with creative expression, allowing them to devise innovative solutions to combat climate change. Naomi Kawanishi, the Global Brand Director of Clé de Peau Beauté, reflected on the profound impact this partnership has had, stating, "Witnessing the life-changing effects this partnership has had on girls—providing them with confidence, creative capabilities, and new opportunities for their futures—makes this commitment renewal incredibly meaningful."

The renewed partnership builds on a solid foundation of effective programs that have already provided a wide range of opportunities through innovative STEM initiatives. Carla Haddad Mardini, UNICEF's Director for Private Sector Fundraising and Partnerships, remarked on Clé de Peau Beauté's leadership in promoting gender equality and their deep commitment to strengthening girls' empowerment, emphasizing that extending efforts to bolster essential STEAM skills will significantly impact these girls as change-makers in society.

The Urgent Need for Continued Investment

This renewed commitment comes at a critical time; globally, girls continue to face significant barriers to education and skills development. Approximately 122 million girls remain out of school, and nearly 40% of adolescent girls and young women do not complete secondary education. There is also a severe underrepresentation of girls in STEM fields, accounting for merely 35% of STEM graduates and 3% of ICT graduates. In addition, almost 50 million girls lack basic literacy skills. In low-income countries, access to the internet remains a significant hurdle, leaving around 90% of girls without adequate opportunities for educational advancement.

These challenges are compounded by overlapping barriers, including harmful gender norms, child marriage, and unpaid caregiving responsibilities. This highlights the urgent necessity for ongoing investments and gender-responsive approaches that enable girls to acquire the skills and opportunities vital for their future.

Through the renewal of this partnership, Clé de Peau Beauté and UNICEF will continue to work hand in hand to expand opportunities for girls around the globe, supporting the next generation in fully realizing their potential.
