Carbon to Value Initiative Invites Startups for Year 6 Accelerator Program to Boost Carbontech Innovations

Carbon to Value Initiative Opens Year 6 Accelerator Applications

The Carbon to Value Initiative (C2V Initiative) is officially opening applications for its sixth-year accelerator program, designed to support and scale carbontech innovations that tackle climate challenges. This initiative, a collaboration between the Urban Future Lab at NYU Tandon School of Engineering, Greentown Labs, and Fraunhofer USA, highlights the critical role of carbontech in achieving net-zero emissions and minimizing global warming.

Since its inception in 2020, the C2V Initiative has proven to be a powerful platform for carbontech startups, facilitating over 600 connections among its network, which includes more than 45 startup alumni and industry partners. The initiative has helped these innovative teams raise upwards of $700 million in funding, launch pilot projects, and create valuable joint ventures.

The sixth year presents a tremendous opportunity for startups developing groundbreaking carbon technologies that align with the initiative's focus on transformative carbon reuse processes. Startups working at Technology Readiness Levels (TRL) 4-7 are invited to apply. They may utilize carbon conversion methods to produce fuels, chemicals, and materials or even tackle carbon-rich waste through advanced technical processes. Some highlighted categories for eligible solutions include:
  • - Carbon Conversion to Value-Added Products: This encompasses the conversion of CO₂ and carbon-rich streams into various materials, including fuels such as SAF/e-fuels, LPG, or advanced carbon materials.
  • - Carbon Capture: This includes point-source capture methods and innovative techniques such as Direct Air Capture (DAC).
  • - Carbon Sequestration and Removal: Startups focusing on marine carbon dioxide removal, improved biomass strategies, and advanced mineralization techniques fall under this category.

The C2V Initiative accelerator program will provide selected startups with a stipend of up to $10,000, alongside tailored programming that bridges them with strategic partners from its Carbontech Leadership Council (CLC), composed of notable industry leaders like Shell and L'Oréal.

Frederic Clerc, Managing Director of the Urban Future Lab, emphasizes the growing recognition of carbon as a valuable asset rather than merely a challenge.
