Covation Biomaterials: A New Era for Sustainable Materials
Covation Biomaterials LLC, known as CovationBio®, has announced a significant milestone in the bio-based materials industry with the completion of mechanical work at its inaugural commercial plant. This plant, dedicated to producing bioTHF and bioPTMEG, marks an important step toward reducing reliance on fossil fuels and fostering sustainability in material production.
The Xatryx Brand Launch
In a major development, CovationBio has officially introduced its new brand, Xatryx®, which will encompass a range of high-performance, non-food bioPTMEG products. The launch of this brand aligns with the company's commitment to advancing renewable energy solutions and enhancing the quality of life while preserving the planet.
Feifeng You, president of CovationBio, expressed enthusiasm about the new brand, indicating that the name Xatryx® embodies the company’s relentless exploration for innovative processes and products that contribute to the decarbonization of the material industry. In this spirit, the products under the Xatryx® umbrella are designed not only to provide excellent performance but also to leverage abundant agricultural by-products that do not compete with food sources.
The New Production Facility
Located in Qidong, Jiangsu Province, China, the C4 plant utilizes groundbreaking processing technology developed by CovationBio. The total investment in this facility reaches 10 billion RMB, with plans for three phases aimed at achieving a total production capacity of 500,000 tons per year of bio-based materials. Currently, the first phase, which has reached mechanical completion, boasts an annual production capacity of 50,000 tons for bioTHF and bioPTMEG, with commercial production expected to kick off in the second half of 2026.
Sustainable Advantages of Xatryx® BioPTMEG
As a second-generation bio-based material, Xatryx® bioPTMEG presents several advantages over fossil-fuel-derived PTMEG. These include:
- - Significant reduction in greenhouse gas emissions compared to conventional fossil fuels.
- - Derived from renewable resources, ensuring sustainability through the continuous availability of agricultural by-products.
- - Non-competitive positioning with food sources as it is produced from materials such as corn husks.
- - Enhanced integration performance allows downstream customers to transition to bio-based materials without altering existing processes.
These benefits position Xatryx® bioPTMEG as an ideal solution for applications in industries ranging from textiles to adhesives, effectively supporting clients in their quest to decrease dependency on non-renewable resources.
Participation in CHINAPLAS 2026
CovationBio will showcase the Xatryx® product line at CHINAPLAS 2026, one of the largest plastics and rubber trade shows in the world. With the theme "Transformation - Collaboration - Sustainability," the event will provide an opportunity for the CovationBio team to discuss how Xatryx® products can integrate into downstream materials while advancing sustainability goals across the value chain. Attendees are encouraged to visit their booth in Hall 1.2, Stand F77, for more insights.
