APP Japan Collaborates on Indonesia Training Program for Students
In an initiative to foster global talent and promote education on sustainable development goals (SDGs), APP Japan, the Japanese subsidiary of the Indonesian paper and pulp manufacturer APP, supported a training program for students organized by Tsukuba University, Tsukuba University Affiliated Sakado High School, and Ehime University Affiliated High School. This program, which began in 2015, aims to educate students about sustainable forest management practices and the real-world applications of corporate activities aimed at achieving SDGs.
This year marked the seventh collaboration between APP Japan and the program, with students and teachers from Tsukuba University and Ehime University involved for the first time as part of a higher education collaboration initiative.
The training program took place from July 26 to August 7, 2026, with the first five days dedicated to visiting various significant locations. Participants toured APP's headquarters, the Japanese Embassy in Indonesia (Jakarta), the Indah Kiat Pulp & Paper Mill, and forest management areas in Riau Province. The objective was to deepen their understanding of sustainable forestry practices and the paper manufacturing process while learning how APP balances environmental conservation with industrial development on-site.
