AARP's Efforts to Strengthen Maryland Communities
In a commendable initiative aimed at enhancing the quality of life for residents across the state, AARP has pledged an impressive commitment of $4.2 million earmarked for community development projects. This funding supports 383 quick-action projects nationwide, with several innovative initiatives set to unfold here in Maryland as part of its 2025 Community Challenge grants.
The spotlight falls on four non-profit organizations in Maryland that have each been selected to receive grants for their community enhancement proposals. This year's grants aim to not only improve public spaces but also focus on transportation, housing, digital connectivity, and more, with an emphasis on benefitting older adults. The aim is clear: make communities more livable and accessible for individuals of all ages.
Hank Greenberg, the Maryland State Director of AARP, expressed pride in collaborating with local communities to bring about tangible improvements. He emphasized, “These projects are about turning great local ideas into real improvements that make everyday life better, especially for older Marylanders.” Such sentiment captures the essence of AARP’s mission in seeking to cultivate vibrant, inclusive environments that allow every resident to thrive, irrespective of age.

Long-Lasting Community Impact

LeaMond, AARP’s executive vice president and chief advocacy and engagement officer, remarked on the lasting influence of these initiatives, stating, “AARP Community Challenge projects may be quick to launch, but their impact is long-lasting.” She underscored AARP's commitment to fostering communities across the nation with solutions designed to improve living conditions.
