Expansion of Muji Products in Tohoku
Muji, a well-known lifestyle brand operated by Ryohin Keikaku Co., Ltd., has recently initiated the supply of its products to Co-operative supermarkets in the Tohoku region. With headquarters in Bunkyo, Tokyo, and led by President Tomo Shimizu, the company partners with the Co-operative Tohoku Sunnet Business Union located in Sendai, Miyagi. This collaboration enables local shoppers to purchase Muji products at supermarkets operated by two Co-ops in Tohoku: Miyagi Seikatsu Kyodokumin and Iwate Seikatsu Kyodokumin.
Starting from March 12, 2023, Muji products will be available at the Miyagi Seikyu Shiraishi Store, marking the brand's entry into this market segment. The rollout will continue to another supermarket in Miyagi and two in Iwate, totaling four locations in the region that will stock Muji items.
Commitment to Quality of Life
Ryohin Keikaku operates under the philosophy of creating a pleasant lifestyle and society through products that offer a simple yet luxurious value. The company aims to enhance daily living by providing thoughtfully designed products and services. Alongside the chain of Muji stores, it has made strides to offer Muji products in supermarkets in regions where there are no nearby stores, making it more convenient for customers to access these products.
To date, Muji has established partnerships with supermarkets in various regions including Hokkaido, Hokuriku, Tokai, Kinki, Chugoku Shikoku, and Okinawa. This progressive outreach ensures that Muji’s quality offerings reach an extended customer base throughout Japan.
New Initiatives and Service Expansion
In the Tohoku area, Muji has engaged in various collaborative efforts with Co-operative Tohoku Sunnet. Beginning in November 2023, the co-operative will launch a delivery service that will offer approximately 120 Muji products to around 500,000 members participating in their delivery service. This initiative further cements Muji's commitment to making its products accessible to a wider population.
Additionally, in March 2023, Muji opened its first adjacent store in Iwate, located within the Iwate Seikyu Berufu Mukonakano store. This has led to a total of three Muji stores now operating adjacent to Co-operative supermarkets under Co-operative Tohoku Sunnet.
Customers can expect to find a diverse range of popular items at these locations, including food products, skincare items, cleaning supplies, kitchenware, socks, and underwear. Approximately 900 essential daily living items are set to be stocked, aiming to support the community and meet the everyday needs of local residents.
Continuing Community Support
Ryohin Keikaku is dedicated to continuously enhancing the lives of the community by providing products that contribute to a stronger base of everyday services. The expansion of Muji products in supermarkets signifies a step towards fulfilling this commitment and offers a more convenient shopping experience for customers in Tohoku and beyond.
As this initiative unfolds, Muji plans to evaluate further opportunities for expanding its retail presence and enhancing the lifestyle choices available to communities across the region. By fostering such collaborations and ensuring product availability, the brand reinforces its dedication to supporting the needs of its customers and helping improve their quality of life.
