The Completely New Civic Creative Base Tokyo Is Here!
Civic Creative Base Tokyo (CCBT) has officially moved to Harajuku, and with its new location comes a thrilling array of events and exhibitions aimed at exploring the intersection of art, sound, and urban space. Launching on December 13, 2025, the CCBT will open its doors showcasing the innovative exhibition "New Road" by the artist collective SIDE CORE, alongside the inaugural music event Sound Atlas #1, which delves into the essence of sound through experimental performances and interactions.
A Closer Look at the New Exhibition: "New Road"
SIDE CORE, which was established in 2012 and is known for its explorations of street culture and social signaling, will creatively occupy the whole CCBT space with their special exhibition, "New Road." This exhibition draws upon the concept of roads as physical paths that bind different cultures and values together, particularly as they exist in the vibrant atmosphere of Tokyo. As visitors meander through the exhibition, they will witness how various societal boundaries have been traversed through the continuous act of movement. The event takes place from December 13, 2025, to January 25, 2026, and entry is free!
An Experimental Musical Journey Unveiled
Another key highlight of this renewal is the musical project, Sound Atlas #1, which is slated for December 13, 2025. This event promises to be a unique exploration of sound, undertaken by a diverse collaborative team of artists, musicians, and performers. Live performances, DJs set, installations, and discussions will uncover the depths of sound that often go unheard by the average listener, including ultra-low frequencies. Early bird tickets are available starting from November 13, 2025, with a limited price of 1,500 yen, allowing the public to partake in this immersive experience.
A Rich Program of Special Events Awaits
CCBT's opening will also feature several stimulating side events such as workshops, opening talks, and more. Attendees can enjoy learning experiences that delve into the concepts of sound design and urban exploration, such as the "Spark☆Dojo: Introduction to Sound Design" workshop, catering to young creatives age nine and up. Additionally, an opening talk will feature diverse stakeholders including artists, researchers, and officials who will discuss the future directions of urban culture and social collaborations in the city.
Workshops and Local Engagements
With its commitment to community involvement and creativity, CCBT's workshops aim to engage participants with hands-on experiences in sound design and urban imagery. The "Urban Ink" workshop will allow participants to create posters using a unique ink derived from urban landscapes, fostering personal expression while exploring Harajuku’s distinctive aesthetic.
International Collaborations on the Horizon
Moreover, CCBT is set to deepen its international connections with an engaging partnership for the Unfold X festival in Seoul, further showcasing the collective’s works while bringing global perspectives to the local artistic scene.
As CCBT embarks on this new chapter in Harajuku, it stands as a beacon for collaborative creativity and social experimentation, inviting all to be part of its vibrant community and diverse happenings. Mark your calendars, and be ready to explore what civic creativity looks like in this new space!
