Sun Life U.S. and Boston Celtics Team Up to Tackle Diabetes with $105,000 Fundraiser

In an inspiring display of community support, Sun Life U.S. and the Boston Celtics have successfully concluded the 11th year of the #SunLifeDunk4Diabetes campaign, raising an impressive $105,000 for the YMCA of Greater Boston. This campaign, held during National Diabetes Month in November, has become a hallmark initiative in the fight against diabetes, engaging fans and players alike in a purpose-driven cause.

The #SunLifeDunk4Diabetes campaign operates under a simple yet powerful premise: for every dunk made by the Celtics during November games, Sun Life contributes $1,000. The Boston Celtics Shamrock Foundation further amplifies this impact by matching donations, making the total potential contribution reach up to $25,000. This year's campaign saw the Celtics perform an exhilarating 60 dunks, with standout performances by Neemias Queta, who led the team with 25 dunks, followed closely by Jayson Tatum with 13.

David Shapiro, CEO of the YMCA of Greater Boston, expressed gratitude for the partnership with both Sun Life and the Celtics. "We are fortunate to have such incredible support from an iconic team like the Celtics and a local company like Sun Life that has consistently shown a commitment to the health and wellness of the Greater Boston community," he stated. The Y’s Healthy Habits program, which benefits from this funding, is a 10-week educational initiative that helps individuals understand and manage their health better, with a focus on preventing or reversing type 2 diabetes.

With over 130,000 votes cast on Instagram to select the Dunk of the Week, fans not only participated in the excitement of the games but also contributed to the cause. Notable winners throughout the campaign included Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum, who captivated audiences with their performances.

Ted Dalton, Chief Partnership Officer for the Boston Celtics, highlighted the campaign's unique ability to involve fans. "The Celtics organization is committed to supporting the health and wellness of the Greater Boston community, and along with our partners at Sun Life and the Greater Boston YMCA, we are so grateful to continue this program this season," he conveyed.
