Kailas FUGA Gongga 100: Launching China's Most Challenging Race

Kailas FUGA Gongga 100: A New Era for Trail Running in China

On October 1, 2025, Kailas FUGA, a leading name in trail running, launched its inaugural event - the Kailas FUGA Gongga 100 Extreme Glacier Challenge. Collaborating with Letour Sports, this groundbreaking race took place in one of China's most remote and challenging areas, specifically aimed at promoting trail running globally while providing access to spectacular landscapes.

The race was held at the foot of Mount Gongga, a majestic peak towering at 7,500 meters and known to be one of the most extreme locations worldwide. After seven years of meticulous planning and consistent collaboration with local authorities and community members, the event unfolded in the Hailuogou Glacier area, typically inaccessible to the public. This challenge is more than just a race; it's a new chapter in competitive running that could position China as a prime destination for international athletes.

Kailas founder and product director, Baggio Zhong, expressed his vision for the event, noting, "We aim for this race to become increasingly international and ultimately one of the premier races globally." He highlighted the unique appeal and significant challenges that Mount Gongga presents to participants, making it a standout venue for adventurers.

The Gongga 100 features courses of 30 km, 55 km, and 100 km, each designed to cater to different skill levels. Starting at an altitude of 1,600 meters, runners ascend to 4,100 meters and traverse a challenging glacier section. Zhong emphasized the diverse trail complexities, ensuring that both amateur and experienced runners can enjoy the experience while pushing their limits.

This inaugural event attracted approximately 1,000 participants hailing from seven different countries. Notable athletes included Bryon Powell from the USA, who won the Ultra Gobi 800 last year. He noted that "the Gongga 100 is more than a race." He described it as an immersive experience that showcases the rich culture, delicious cuisine, warm hospitality, and stunning vistas of Western China. Despite facing steep inclines and declines, Powell relished the camaraderie and support he received from fellow competitors.

Moreover, the event not only emphasizes physical endurance but also acknowledges the economic growth that sports can catalyze by promoting tourism in remote areas. As one of over a hundred international races conducted annually by Letour Sports with the backing of Kailas FUGA, the Gongga 100 signifies a critical step forward in elevating trail-race experiences within China.

The successful unveiling of this race highlighted the increasing interest in competitive trail running, which combines the thrill of outdoor adventure with community engagement. As Kailas FUGA continues to innovate and push the boundaries of trail running, the Gongga 100 sets a shining example of what the future of outdoor sports in China can look like.

Additionally, Kailas FUGA unveiled its new footwear model, the DU2 GTX, designed specifically for the challenging conditions characterized by ice, rocks, and mud, ensuring that participants are well-equipped for their journey across such rugged terrains.

Overall, the Kailas FUGA Gongga 100 has positioned itself as a defining moment for adventure athletes in China and an exciting opportunity for international runners seeking unique challenges in breathtaking landscapes.
