Celebrating Career Autonomy in the Era of Change: The Protean Award 2026



On February 14, 2026, the Protean Career Association, headquartered in Shinjuku, Tokyo, celebrated its sixth anniversary with the prestigious Protean Award 2026. This event honored individuals, teams, and organizations that exemplified the principles of career autonomy and contributed significantly to building better relationships between individuals and organizations. The event was part of the Human Capital Management Manifesto's sixth anniversary, concluding with the awards ceremony that recognized outstanding achievements in this domain.

The Protean Award was created not only to applaud the past accomplishments of various teams and individuals but also to pave the way for future achievements. At the award ceremony, both participants and attendees took the time to celebrate the sustained efforts of the nominees over the previous six years. The recognition was divided into two categories: team awards and individual awards.

Teams and Individuals Recognized
This year saw entries from five teams and six individuals, with awards presented to three teams and two individuals for their exceptional contributions.

Team Awards:


1. Grand Prize: Tohoku Protean Club
The Tohoku Protean Club was awarded the Grand Prize for their innovative educational content aimed at promoting career education across various schools and regions in Tohoku. Their dedication to spreading the message of career autonomy in the region was particularly commendable.

2. Excellence Award: Middle Lab
Middle Lab received the Excellence Award for developing original training tools that support autonomous career actions through online and community activities. Their proactive approach to career education has made a substantial impact.

3. Excellence Award: Western Japan Branch
The Western Japan Branch was recognized for fostering strong cohesion among its members, collectively supporting their psychological success across a wide geographic area.

Individual Awards:
1. Excellence Award: Ryota Inaba
Ryota Inaba was awarded for his passionate dedication to promoting career education through seminars and workshops that integrate human capital management and Protean career theory. As the head of the Tokyo branch, he has proactively created cross-border experiences for his peers.

2. Excellence Award: Eiichiro Noma
Eiichiro Noma received recognition for his exemplary career counseling practices using AI to enhance career development efforts. He has conducted over 1,200 career coaching sessions, reflecting a commitment to personal growth and organizational success.

The Significance of the Protean Award


The Protean Award is not just a celebration of past achievements; it serves as a platform for future aspirations, encouraging participants to declare, “Next is my turn.” As more individuals embody psychological success, the potential for change in organizations, communities, and society as a whole increases. The sixth anniversary represents a milestone, with the Protean movement poised to expand even further.

The Protean Career Association aims to support proactive career development and foster better relationships between organizations and individuals. Founded in March 2020, its initiatives focus on organizational development and certification systems to enhance individual careers. The association's leadership comprises Kenji Tanaka, a professor at Hosei University, and Tohru Ariyama, CEO of 4designs Inc.
