With the aim of uncovering the region's outstanding offerings and promoting them on a national stage, this award was a collaborative effort with AiLand Inc. (based in Shibuya, Tokyo), handling everything from planning and design to execution and judging.

Out of 117 entries, the award ceremony was presided over by chief judge Risa Awaihara, who led a thorough evaluation process, culminating in the announcement of the winners. The prestigious Grand Prize was awarded to Kishu Ume Tai Ume, while the Runner-up was given to Deluxe Cake, among five special commendations and 20 recognized products.

What is the Wakayama Ichiban Star Award?

The Wakayama Ichiban Star Award is designed to spotlight excellent products produced and sold in Wakayama, with the goal of representing the region's spirit both nationwide and internationally. This award evaluates various factors such as compelling narratives, unique commitments, and future potential when selecting superior local goods. It represents a restructured form of the traditional endorsement system, making its debut this year following its renewal.

A beloved delicacy over nearly 100 years in Tanabe, Suzuya's Deluxe Cake features a moist sponge cake enveloped in white chocolate, complemented by a homemade white bean jam. This time-honored recipe carries the reminiscences of the land and its people, offering a moment of quiet luxury as one unwraps the silver foil.
