Exploring the Richness of Edo Era Illustrations
Taisho University, located in Toshima, Tokyo, is set to host a special event titled "Exploring the Richness of Edo Era Illustrations" on February 28, 2026. Under the auspices of its Faculty of Literature and the Japanese Literature Department, this event will delve into the fascinating world of Edo period art and literature with the guidance of esteemed scholars in the field.
The lineup includes Professor Kenichi Suzuki from Gakushuin University, Assistant Professor Rui Kosho from the same institution, and Aya Sekihara, who has affiliations with Gakushuin and Keio Universities. Their multidisciplinary perspectives will shed light on various aspects of classical literature and art from Japan’s Edo period, making it an excellent opportunity for middle and high school students to broaden their interests and knowledge in Japanese culture.
This event is part of Taisho University’s ongoing “Classic Literature Project,” which aims to deepen engagement with classical texts through collaboration with their library, known for its valuable collections, including rare manuscripts of "The Tale of Genji." Previous initiatives under this project have included a workshop on reading classical Japanese manuscripts, engaging with the world of classical literature through old books, and exploring creatures depicted in scrolls, successfully attracting numerous participants of various ages to experience the appeal of Japanese classics.
