Stellantis Electrification Strategy Reaches New Heights with Ram 1500 Ramcharger
Stellantis, a global automaker, has made a significant move in its electrification strategy by prioritizing the launch of the new
Ram 1500 Ramcharger. This new vehicle is set to roll out ahead of the previously anticipated
Ram 1500 REV, marking a strategic shift in the company's approach to electric pickup trucks.
The decision to advance the launch of the Ram 1500 Ramcharger is driven by the remarkable interest from consumers as well as a desire to maintain a competitive edge in the vehicle technology landscape, particularly amidst slower market demand for traditional half-ton battery electric vehicles (BEVs). As the company indicated, the Ramcharger will be available for customer orders in early 2025, giving Ram enthusiasts a new electrified option to consider.
Located in
Sterling Heights, Michigan, the assembly plant will serve as the primary production site for the Ram 1500, which includes various configurations powered by both electric and internal combustion engines. The 2025 Ram 1500 Ramcharger promises to offer an exceptional driving range of up to
690 miles, a feature that sets it apart in the crowded pickup truck market.
Equipped with a robust
92 kWh battery pack, the Ramcharger complements its electric system with a
130 kW generator, enabling it to deliver power to both front and rear electric drive modules. Notably, the vehicle offers bi-directional charging capabilities, allowing it to supply energy to other electric vehicles or even provide power back to household grids.
In terms of performance, the Ram 1500 Ramcharger is poised to be a powerhouse, boasting impressive specifications including a
0-60 mph time of just 4.4 seconds, a towering
663 horsepower, and over
615 lb.-ft. of torque. Furthermore, it claims a leading towing capacity of
14,000 pounds when fitted with a class 5 hitch, alongside a maximum payload capability of
2,625 pounds.
The Ram brand has established itself in the market since its inception as a standalone division in
2009, developing trucks that cater to the specific needs of consumers in the segment. Over the years, it has consistently delivered high-quality vehicles, including a broad lineup comprising the Ram 1500, 2500/3500 Heavy Duty, and the ProMaster vans.
Some highlights of the Ram offerings include the
segment-first 1,000 lb.-ft. of torque drive with the Cummins Turbo Diesel engine, luxury elements like
24-way massage seats, and the most spacious cargo options available in the traditional full-size cargo van category. This commitment to innovation and performance is reflected in the accolades received, such as being named the most awarded light-duty truck in America and maintaining the highest owner loyalty in the half-ton category.
The new Ram 1500 Ramcharger is a testament to Stellantis's ongoing efforts to stay ahead in the electrification race. By launching this model first, they aim not only to satisfy consumer demand but also to set a benchmark in the industry's transitions to electric vehicles. As the Ram brand embraces the future of automotive technology, consumers can expect to see more electrified models alongside traditional offerings, demonstrating Stellantis's versatility in addressing diverse market needs.
