Farr's Best Launces $100,000 Scholarship to Inspire Future Leaders at Sacramento State

Farr's Best Launches $100,000 Scholarship Campaign

In an official announcement made during the recent Family Leadership Summit at Sacramento State University's Black Honors College, Farr's Best unveiled its inaugural scholarship campaign focused on empowering future student leaders. Founded by Andre Farr, this national nonprofit organization works tirelessly to strengthen families and communities, and this scholarship is a significant addition to its mission.

The launch of this scholarship campaign has been made possible through a partnership with American First Credit Union, which provided critical initial support. Their collaboration aims to develop and elevate emerging student leaders, specifically recognizing excellence in the areas of speech and debate. The first award of this initiative was a $5,000 scholarship granted to Aiden Wates-Gee, an exceptional 2026 high school graduate with an impressive 4.1 GPA.

Aiden's journey is one that embodies the spirit of the scholarship. He is set to further his education by attending an honors college this fall, making him a catalyst for inspiration to his peers. During the announcement, Michael Williams, Senior Vice President of Consumer Lending and Member Experience at American First Credit Union, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, "It was an honor to partner with Andre Farr and the Farr's Best family on this scholarship program. After meeting Aiden personally, I couldn't think of a more worthy and inspiring recipient."

This scholarship presentation was a high point of the three-day summit held from June 19 to 21, which centered around the theme that leadership begins at home, flourishes through education, and thrives within community engagement. Participants and families were welcomed by prominent university figures including Aniesha K. Mitchell, J.D., and Dr. Boatamo "Ati" Mosupyoe, who emphasized the importance of collaboration to uplift families and encourage higher education.

Dr. Luke Wood, the President of Sacramento State University, expressed his appreciation for the event, stating, "I am grateful and honored that Farr's Best hosted a powerful convening at Sacramento State. We look forward to further collaborations that elevate our partnership, which seeks to strengthen families and promote college going."

For Andre Farr, the founder of Farr's Best, launching this scholarship transcends financial assistance. "It represents our commitment to building leaders before they earn titles and careers. Leadership is cultivated in families, reinforced through education, nurtured through mentorship, and sustained by communities that intentionally support each other. We have a responsibility to create opportunities that empower the next generation not just to succeed, but to lead," he stated.

Over the course of the summit, which coincided with Father’s Day weekend, various engaging activities were planned. This included the Juneteenth Exchange focused on economic opportunities, an ACA panel, and a keynote speech by renowned leadership coach Willie C. Hooks. The weekend concluded with a Father’s Day celebration at the Sacramento State Aquatic Center that fostered community and family connections.

With organizations like the City of Rancho Cordova proudly serving as anchor partners and support from various local businesses, plans are already underway for the 2027 Farr's Best Family Leadership Summit. The future looks bright as they aim to broaden the scholarship initiatives and provide invaluable leadership programming for families across the nation.
