Townsend's 'Townie Cares' Initiative Provides Essential CPR Training for Local Retirement Community

Townsend's 'Townie Cares' Initiative: Empowering Lives Through CPR Training

In a heartwarming display of community spirit, Townsend has launched its 'Townie Cares' initiative, dedicated to providing essential CPR training to residents of a local retirement community. Rooted in the company’s belief that 'Townies help Townies,' this employee-led program reflects the principles of Integrity, Legacy, Commitment, and Excellence that Townsend embodies.

A Community Response to a Critical Need

The decision to launch the CPR initiative stemmed from a harrowing incident in which a resident at a Boxford retirement community experienced a heart attack. This situation highlighted a significant gap in the preparedness for such emergencies within the community, prompting both residents and Townsend employees to recognize the urgent need for CPR training.

Deanna Patterson, Townsend's Vice President of Experience, took the lead in coordinating the training sessions. With the assistance of Kevin Willey, the company’s Safety Manager and a certified CPR trainer, they crafted a program tailored to the needs of the community. Kevin, drawing from his extensive experience as a former police officer, brought not only technical know-how to the sessions but also a deeply personal touch that resonated with participants.

Over the course of two sessions, 31 residents actively participated, with many earning their CPR certifications. Importantly, the initiative was inclusive—residents with limited mobility also had the opportunity to attend and learn, enhancing their understanding of safety even if they could not obtain certification. This approach ensured everyone was part of an important conversation, fostering a sense of unity among participants.

Looking Ahead: More Training Sessions to Come

The enthusiasm and positive response to the initial training sessions have already led to plans for a third session in the fall, demonstrating that the community's desire for training and knowledge is strong and supported. As Deanna Patterson puts it, “Townie Cares is about people showing up for each other. We saw a need in our community, and our team didn't hesitate. We’re passionate about helping our community.”

An Employee-Driven Initiative

What sets the Townie Cares program apart is the empowerment it offers to Townsend employees. Any team member can propose new projects, ensuring that the initiatives are not only relevant but also responsive to the real needs of the community. This level of involvement reflects a genuine commitment to social responsibility, making Townsend not just a service provider but a dedicated community partner.
